Hello all,

I've been waiting for my MCAT scores to come before I submit my AMCAS because I really can't afford the $ to apply to schools that I don't have a chance of getting into...is this a really horrible idea? Should I submit my app ASAP with just a few schools and then add others later if I happen to score really well? I'm an older postbacc premed so I am kind of clueless about how the system works...any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think quite a few people are waiting for their scores, which is what I myself am doing. Besides, doing it now or waiting till Monday or Tuesday now won't really make a big difference. I'd wait and not worry about it. Good luck!

elephunt, I am in the same boat as you (post-bac, little $$ for wasted apps) I feel that the scores will be sent within the next week and it seems as if you can get them online instead of waiting for them in the mail. I agree with you about waiting and that's what I plan to do even though there may be a mad rush of apps submitted in those following days. It's more important to know that you are applying to the right schools than it is to get your stuff in 5-10 days earlier.....as I see it....

shouldn't make a difference. AMCAS doesn't actually transmit applications to schools until sometime in July. i forget the exact date. but basically, as long as you get yours in with enough time to be processed by july, your app will be released to the schools at the same time as the june 1 crowd. i think i submitted my AMCAS around june 15. it was processed within a week or so, and released to schools on the first possible day, leaving me feeling pleased with myself and thinking all those june 1 folks were suckers.

and really, being first or close to first doesn't make that much difference. waiting until august is where you start to be at a disadvantage. good luck! :luck:

Thanks guys...I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting. For some reason this morning I woke up with a horrible paranoid conviction that everyone else had submitted their AMCAS at 9:00 a.m. on June 2 (or whenever the opening time was) and that I was DOOMED!!! You're right, I guess a couple of days won't make a huge difference. I hope. Sheesh, all this waiting and worrying is making me paranoid.

Anyone else waiting and/or have an opinion on this question?

I waited last year to get my MCAT before I submitted my AMCAS. I didn't have any issues and will be starting medical school in the fall. You definitely aren't doomed. =)

Thank you, DrWuStar and bunx, i love you! 😀

1) No. You have to submit now, so that you can be verified by mid-October when your scores come out.

2) A sizable one, but not one that you can't overcome. Just realize that many applicants will have been interviewing and a bunch will already be accepted at medical schools before you've even completed all your secondaries. Make sure your application is rock solid and be prepared for some waitlists, if only because a lot of classes may be filled by the time you interview.

I'm with you guys - waiting 'til Tuesday!

Yep, June 15th's the big day. 🙂 9AM according to some people I've heard. You should have gotten an email from AAMC about it telling you to create an account to check those scores.
