Waiting on paper before submitting secondaries?

Should I wait to hear back from the journal I submitted my paper to before submitting my secondaries? It is a first author paper and, according to the journal's statistics, I should hear back in about two weeks. I realize that it won't be accepted outright after its first review, but if I get 'accepted pending minor revisions' I think that it would be worth noting.

Furthermore, I submitted my AMCAS app in July so waiting a couple of weeks wouldn't push back my timeframe since I won't be verified until about mid-August. My major concern is that if I wait until I hear back from the journal, the schools which have already sent me secondaries might perceive it as disinterest.

No submit your secondaries early and update your schools later if the paper is ACCEPTED.

Resubmit with revisions isn't worth telling schools about and journals can be very slow getting back to you. Very slow. Not something you want to sit around waiting for.

Edit: I reread your post and realized that you're actually not verified yet. In that case it probably doesn't hurt to sit around on the secondaries a little longer if you think a decision is imminent, but I still think that revise & resubmit is not something schools care about. You can't say a paper is in press until it's actually accepted and in press is when you're allowed to put it on cvs, etc.

Well, you not being verified yet does change my conviction slightly... but I would still probably advise you to submit your secondaries ASAP if you've already been offered them.

Though I don't know your exact publication situation, it's more than likely you'll need more than minor revisions. Generally, in my experience, you either get rejected outright or have major revisions. Minor revisions are generally after a round of major revisions (at least in my current field). I also have a couple of papers currently submitted/under revision, but I personally don't think there's much difference from the eyes of a school whether your publication is "submitted" or "under invited revision".

Plus, just because a journal STATISTICALLY gets back to you in about a month or so, it really just depends on the reviewers and can take quite a while.

Thanks for the good advice, I think I'll go ahead and work on submitting the secondaries now. I already waited longer than I wanted to submit my primary because I was waiting to hear on a separate paper - I would hate to make the same mistake twice!
