I am currently on three waitlists for MD programs. I plan on writing letters of interest to them this month. The schools are Michigan State, Wayne State and George Washington University. What is the standard format for a letter of interest ? Should I send a snail mail letter or just send an email. Any help would be appreciated. What do you think my chances are of getting in off one of the waitlists ?

I am also a legacy for one of the medical schools. They never asked about it in the application or during the interview. Do you think it is worth bringing up in my letter of interest ?

Does legacy really mean anything with med school? My whole family went to the same undergrad, but I was flat-out rejected pre-interview from my dad's med school. I even got my master's degree from there and I am doing clinical research there.

It might not hurt to mention it, but I wouldn't count on it doing wonders. Rather, you need to focus on what makes you a good fit for the school and what attracts you to the school.

Legacy doesn't mean you and your family went to the same undergrad/grad school that the medical school is affiliated with.

Legacy means members of your family graduated from that medical school. For example, your dad or mom is a doctor that graduated from that medical school and you want to follow in their footsteps.

For example, LSU Shreveport accepts only in-state students. The only out-of-state students they consider are legacy kids (i.e. kids whose parents went to and graduated from LSU Shreveport medical school).

Thanks but I am well aware of what legacy means. My dad went to and graduated from the same medical school that I went to for my master's. The grad program is in the college of medicine.
