Never did it but it can't hurt. I would say go for it.
 
if there is no room for you, then there is no room. no # of letters that could be written can change that. i would say your chances are just as good with, or without the letter.

Couldn't hurt. Especially at some schools that focus on connections and networking, (ie. USC UoP), it might give you an edge over some others on the wait list, and its possible that you might get a bit of priority if they're really impressed or something. Or not. But either way, it won't hurt.
 
It may be safe to assume that your prof sent you an LOR and that he has expressed every possible adjective imaginable. At this point even a letter from Obama would be expected to net the same result.
