So I was quite happy to at least get on the waitlist but now I'm feeling discouraged. I was looking at past threads and saw that there are two waitlists. One with guaranteed acceptance for the following year and one that's not. I'm on the one that isn't guaranteed. Is this still a thing at MSUCOM?

Yes I believe so. The guaranteed acceptance is very short however. The vast majority of people are on the regular one.

At least you have a response. I'm still in radio silence

Do you know how many people they have on the wait list?

I'm not sure about the regular wait list, but I believe it is quite large. The guaranteed acceptance waitlist is much much shorter.

Also on the wait list. Would love to hear back from them, but I'm doubting I will.

Do you know how they accept from the waitlist? Is it from who was given a waitlist offer first?

Not sure at all, but I believe they offer spots to people on the guaranteed list first.

Ya I figured they would with them. I'm just wondering how they run the "non-guaranteed" list after the guaranteed list has already been gone through.

I'm figuring nothing from here on out. Movement has been minimal

Oh well, I should be greatful I have an acceptance somewhere. Hopefully Touro-NV comes through for me as well.

I spoke with an MSUCOM admissions rep this week and they said that they have tried really hard this cycle to retain people they have given acceptance letters out to so the waitlist isn't moving as fast as it has previously.

Good joke

What does that even mean?

The MSU admissions rep said that since they have spent the time going through the application and selecting that person for admission they want to do their best to make sure they actually attend MSUCOM. They didn't like handing out acceptances and then having those students choose to go to a different DO program after MSU invested the time in them. As a result they were trying to work harder this cycle to ensure that those people they offered spots to actually chose to attend MSUCOM instead of accepting an offer from another school.

As a result not as many people have been accepted from the waitlist this cycle as have been in the past.

Just passing the info along that I got from the MSU rep at the Macomb site.

OK that makes a lot more sense. They didn't pick me though, so there system is obviously flawed. 😛

Does this mean that it may help to send a letter of intent? I will gladly give up my acceptance to attend MSUCOM. I haven't had a chance to speak with anyone, but if I call do you think they will tell me my place on the waitlist (in more detail than just tiers)??

Also congrats on your acceptance, which campus are you going to?

I think it helps to send a LOI through the portal as long as you have something meaningful and relevant/significant to add to your application (according to the article by Dr. Ruger). I doubt just sending one for the sake of it without any new info is going to help that much. Don't ever give up your acceptance until you have another secured in hand.

Thanks! I'll be at the DMC.
