I was accepted to a DPT school in November and accepted the offer and paid the deposit. Recently I was offered a waitlist spot at WashU. I know that the schools you have accepted can see your offers and other acceptances, but will they know about being placed on waitlists for other schools? I would still like to attend the school I've already accepted to because I'm grateful I'm going anywhere, but if got off the waitlist at WashU I would choose that school over the other one, but you have to accept the waitlist offer. Can I accept a waitlist offer without declining acceptance to the other one?

Yes you can! Accepting and paying your deposit just holds your seat in the program. You just lose out on your deposit since it's non-refundable. I think that everything is fair game until the program starts. I heard of people pulling out of the program a couple days before it starts because they got an offer at a school of higher interest.

Like the previous person said, accepting and paying your deposit just holds your seat. You can always back down the spot and accept WashU if they end up offering you a spot. The deposit is just a way for schools to make sure you're dedicated to go to their school since they tend to be pricey and non-refundable.

And no, if you're worried that you accepting that other school's offer will affect your spot on WashU's waitlist, you shouldn't be. From what I've gathered, only schools that have accepted you can see whether you've been accepted elsewhere. So that means even schools that you are waitlisted for will not see previous acceptances until/if they ultimately accept you.
