I am on several waitlists and have this question. On one the waitlist site it says,

"Generally, waitlist acceptances are not made until May. Acceptances may continue, on a limited basis, throughout the summer until the first day of class, August 18, 2004.

The School of Medicine, as all medical schools, will not offer a place to a candidate who has begun enrollment or an official orientation program in another medical school."

I am also admitted to one school that has summer orientation june 5th and registration july 6th, but classes don't start til august 12th. Does this mean that if I don't hear from the wait list schools by june 5th, then my chances are over? Eek, I need advice, june 5th seems right around the corner and the waitlists have so far not notified me!

June 5th! That's coming up so quick! You should try talking to some of your waitlist schools and explain your situation, especially those you really want to get off of. I always thought that orientations were right before the start of school, not two months before!

I thought I had issues. I'm in the same boat but my accepted school starts at the end of july and my waitlist school starts at the end of august. I agree that you should express the extreme urgency (and..AHEM...despiration) of your situation! Call ASAP and hound them to give you an answer as soon as possible (in a nice way of course 😀 )

That's extremely annoying. Aside from the waitlist issue. That means unless you currently live in the same city of the med school, you would have to make 2 additional trips to the school. That's bogus. I think that's just a sneaky way of closing off any possible waitlist movement. But I would definately talk to someone at the school you're accepted to--while kinda awkward to ask them about it, they cant rescind you acceptance.
