Waitlist = Rejection?

If we haven't heard anything from our waitlisted schools, is that a sign of rejection at this point in late April?

I know USC is only 75% full, and so if they send their last round of acceptances (~36 spots), there may be a domino effect creating more spots for the schools where you're waitlisted. Minimal chance at this point in time, but there's still hope. Good luck. Also, saw someone posting that Canadian dental schools should be sending their acceptances out--so that may cause a domino effect as well.

When should I give up and just start getting ready for next cycle? I have everything ready to go.....LOR's and PS and such.

I don't know. I don't want to give you bad advice. But if I were in your position, I'll wait till early July to apply. I wouldn't want to waste thousands of dollars on the next application cycle only to learn that I got in. Also, keep in contact with the schools where you're waitlisted.

Not exactly sure USC is a destination spot. Canadians changing their mind and deciding to go to school in Canada is more likely to move the list than Americans changing their minds and giving up their spots to go to USC.

There is probably a lot more hope at traditionally Canadian friendly schools like UDM.

It's currently May 7th....cycle opens up in June.

You should get ready to apply for this cycle. The chances of you being bumped out of the waitlist and into acceptance is nil at this point and may only happen if a miracle occurs.

Why is it nil? People are still accepting/declining seats.

That was changed to April.

My wife heard in May that she was accepted (at Iowa).
Like another user said, prepare for the worst and hope for the best but just know that it IS possible!

Nah, that was the rule a couple of years back. I think for this year, it's April 1st, and so the "big movement" has already passed. Your main hope is for the canucks to withdraw their spots.

I called one of the schools and they mentioned May 1st.

Yea they don't send out acceptances until now. So there should be movement as those Canucks get into their own schools.

I don't want to burst anyones bubble here, but most of the Canadian dental schools (and there is only 10 in total) have already given out their acceptances. I believe there may be a few that haven't given out acceptances as of yet. There should be some movement, but don't expect a mass exodus.

I was told by an SDN member the following schools should still be accepting/only very recently accepted many of their students:

-U of A
-Saskatchewan
-Manitoba
-Western
-McGill
-Dalhousie

I know their class sizes are relatively small. But I assume a significant percent of them are holding a spot at a US school.

Any idea how accurate this info is?

Once they are notified they must give the applicant 15 days before revoking an acceptance, maybe some schools take longer, or maybe they haven't changed their webpage in 2 years. Either way, the movement is over in terms of the multiple spot deadline. Maybe there will be movement when those that were accepted off the waitlist drop their other acceptance.

I'll give it another week, then I'll start the re-application process all over again with the same numbers and same DAT haha.

Nothing will really change unless I take summer and fall courses to take advantage of "academic update"

What are your stats if you care to share? Spending two months and killing the DAT may be more beneficial and cost effective than taking more courses. I wouldn't recommend reapplying with everything being the same and just hoping your more lucky next time around. Unless you applied late, then applying early will help.

Source? Neither April and May mailing mentioned this. April mailings said that the schools will notify each other, and if you are holding multiple spots, please make a decision and notify both schools of your decision.

I also know from talking to different schools recently that waitlists are still moving good at some schools. The people who say the chances are very very slim obviously only applied to schools that are already completely done. It would be impossible for anyone to be an authority on all 50-some schools

Thanks for the info. Which schools do you know are/will be sending more acceptances?

Yeah Roseman and Boston U have interviews still.

Boston's last interview was March 12. I was in the last interview group. Although, I'm not too sure if they decided to interview more, but I doubt it.
