So I was just contacted by a medical school that I interviewed at saying that I am still under consideration, that the admissions committee has reviewed my application and has not made a decision yet. Is that a waitlist in fancier terms or am I just still in application purgatory? Also, what have you guys done to improve your application if you had this happen, what worked well?

I'm in a similar situation at a few places. I think the degree of how close "under consideration" is to being waitlisted will vary from school to school, but the best case scenario is that it's better than a waitlist because you're probably being re-evaluated more frequently than those already put on the list. Of course for some schools this basically is the waitlist...

Sounds like some sort of hold/waitlist to me. Sorry.

"Still under consideration" pretty much sums up my two past cycles of the application process, and I just got another one tonight. 🙁

still under consideration = post interview hold. you may get accepted without being put on the waitlist.

waitlist = I think everyone knows what this means

Well, what possible options do I have to show this school how interested I am in them? And to show them that I'm a good fit for their school? What can I do?

Apparently you need to write a Letter of Interest. I'm not exactly sure what this is, and I'm afraid to start a thread asking about it because 20 people will respond with "WHY DONT YOU USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION???"

The fact that THEY contacted you without ever saying "waitlist" makes it sounds like they want you to do something to impress them enough to give you an acceptance and this is your chance. You pretty much write a letter of interest, explaining why you're a good fit for the school etc. etc. They want to be shown some love. Give it.

Heck if they wanted it, I'd seriously consider giving up a lobe of my liver, its not like I drink anyways and those grow back right? Arite, time to get cracking and writing, is there any chance I could beg someone to proofread what I have to say?
