If we are accepted off of a waitlist after May 15, how long will we have to respond if we were already holding an acceptance to another school?
This is from the AAMC website:

"After May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), April 30 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs. These procedures:
a. May require applicants to:
1. Respond to acceptance offers in less than two weeks.
2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.

Hope that answers your question!

Gyngyn, do you have a prediction about waitlist movement this year?

I made my list as if acceptances and the waitlist would move the same as last year. This is not perfect, but we have little else to base these decisions on...

Joining as well. Have an acceptance to my state-school which was always one of my top options, but im on 2 waitlists at schools I would 100% go to if accepted and 1 school that I would say I'm 75% sure I want to go to 😱

Application round 3. 2 waitlists (my top choice and my second), 0 acceptances. Last year I was waitlisted at top choice too.

Still waiting! 🙁🙁🙁😕😕😕

We are all in the same boat buddy. I haven't heard of any movement yet. It probably wont happen until after May 15th....
We have been waiting for 10 months now. At least its only 1-2 more months to go.

Oh I know. It was just my way of saying "bumps" to bring it back.

Anyone know from previous years how quick after May 15th schools usually pull from the waitlist? I'm sure it varies by school, just wondering if anyone has some idea.

Go to the school specific threads from last year.

Oh from past threads it's not even after May 15th per se.
Many will move in the first weeks of May because some with multiple acceptances will have decided by then. But I've read several schools (at least that I've applied to) move more significantly about a week after the 15th. I'm so hoping for that at least. I graduate on the 22nd, so it would be probably the best day ever if I found out some good news on that day! Haha

Chiming in here!
4 interviews, 4 waitlists.

One is my top top choice, two I would be thrilled to attend, and one I am less excited about (but would obviously be thrilled if this one panned out)...

Trying to stay hopeful, but I'll probably open a new application for next year's cycle if I don't hear something very soon... :-/

Glad I found this thread…wait listed at my top choice as well. 🙁 Thrilled for the acceptances that i do have but antsy to hear back from my top choice. :nailbiting: Good luck to everyone!!! Hope we all hear good news :xf::xf:

The first time I applied (2011-2012 cycle) I submitted 6 secondaries and got 2 II (UC Davis, Mt Sinai) and got wait-listed at Mt. Sinai. Didn't get in 🙁
So even though I have 2 acceptances in hand( :=|:-): ), I can understand completely the feelings of those of you who are still without an option for fall. Stay strong!

I'm on 4(5? ucla is ....... slow..) wait-lists right now, thinking about dropping some before May 15, but I also reeallly would like to get in some of these schools. Good luck to everyone writing LOI's and waiting.

Which school is your top choice, if I may ask?

At this point I'm not even sure whether the school I thought was my number one is my number one anymore. I was waitlisted there...but I'm starting to fall in love (again) with my number two which was my number one before I interviewed at my number one. I'm basically confused. I would love to get off the waitlist but I'm not sure how I would choose...

Your post made me laugh. Thanks for the humor. That rarely comes by in my life these days

May 15th cannot come sooner.
Hear, hear. We're all just sitting around. There is nothing we can do. There is no reason this should be prolonged this way!

Gyngyn is way too cool!
I wish! But honestly, there is no reason to drag the cycle out this long. There has been essentially no movement in the last month and there is going to be little movement until the middle of May. We could all be moving on with our lives, getting apartments (in the actual place you will be living next year!), not wasting time on unneeded pursuits. Sorry, I know you are suffering more than I am, but medicine is supposed to be about ending senseless suffering!

I couldn't agree more. All the plans I'm trying to make are surrounded by so much uncertainty. A couple of the schools I'm waitlisted at seem to give out a significant number of acceptances in late June-July, which means I probably won't feel certain about anything until the day I start orientation. 😛

I wish the official "May 15" drop deadline were moved a few weeks or even a month earlier, so that classes could be ~99% set by at least the middle of June.

As an ADCOM, can you tell me why some schools take their sweet a&$ time sending out financial aid awards?? By this point, I would think the offices of financial aid would have their act together. I'm waiting on two that already came out this time last year and one that won't even come out until AFTER the 15th deadline. Otherwise I would have picked a school by now and not dragged this endless miserable process on longer for myself and for those who are waiting on the spots that I'm taking up. Bah!

Ps. I'm sure inefficiencies in administration also cause patient harm in the real medical world.

They should all be able to give you the COA and which loans you are eligible for within a week of your acceptance (or FAFSA submission). The only thing that financial aid can't tell you is the amount of recruitment $ you might get. This will continue to change until the day school starts and really has nothing to do with their office. If the deadlines were earlier the estimates on this type of aid would also be earlier.

Great point. I wish the recruitment $$$ info would come before the deadline so that we could be well informed about our decision, but I'm sure money sometimes suddenly come into existence during the time between the 15th and matriculation.

You betcha.

1 acceptance and 2 WL but I am really holding out for 1 of my WL schools. The uncertainty is driving me nuts!

Why does the May 15th deadline exist anyway? I mean don't most schools end their seasons by March 30th anyway? It sucks to have to wait so long, especially for those of us that anticipate moving long distances for schools. Not to mention that the longer I wait, the more confused I become about which schools I'd choose between the ones I'm waitlisted at and the one acceptance I have. This wait is TEARING ME APART!!!

This is (allegedly) for the students. It certainly does us no good.

I haven't had contact with a few schools since October which seems like a lifetime away.

Thankfully....

5 waitlists, I just need one to say yes!

Still, I can't help but think that these "waitlists" are nominal at best. It doesn't make me feel any better when some schools will either outright accept you or put you on a waitlist, no rejections (looking at you GW and WF). I feel like they've already rejected me, but threw me on the waitlist to feel better about myself.

+1! Of the five waitlists I'm on, I only feel like I'm competitive for one, maybe two, of them. 🙁(

I think it's time to join the party

7 interviews
7 waitlists
0 acceptances
1 bottle of Jim Beam

Oh the horror :vamp: !!! I seriously feel for you nerdlete40... here's hoping for some good news for you in a few weeks!!!!
