Hey everyone.

I interviewed at my top choice a few months ago. Since the school is known to appreciate demonstrated interest, I sent a letter of intent ahead of my decision in early/mid-February. I was waitlisted at this school last week.

I am honestly pretty devastated, having had what I thought to be a great interview. The school has been my #1 since day 0. Each thank-you/interest letter I sent took several days to perfect in order to ensure they were super genuine, succinct, thoughtful, and well-written. (The school I am accepted to actually commented on how beautiful my letters were, so I feel confident I checked every box.)

Unfortunately, the school has poor waitlist movement. While I am grateful to hold an acceptance elsewhere, I’ve pined after this school for SO long. I am convinced this school’s program lends itself best to my career and research interests, and I will take every opportunity available to get in.

I do have a “significant” update coming up that I will send when the time comes. Otherwise, I am not sure what to do.

Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

You can send another letter of intent with your updates. That should be it though - don't pester them.
If the school historically has poor waitlist movement, you should start hyping yourself up for your other acceptance.
The odds aren't in your favor, unless you donate $50 million to show your "enthusiasm"

Be patient but plan on attending somewhere else. And congrats on the accepts!

How significant is the update? Sending an other LOI will be pointless, unless this is a very needy school.

In that case, any ideas on how to make $50 million in a month? (I am holding GME...) Thank you for your response. 🙂

Thank you! It's something very unique that I'd doubt anyone else has. It would give me away if I said it. May I DM you?

They're not needy. The waitlist email suggested we send updates.

PM away!

Just wait it out. I was in a similar position and was taken off the waitlist after May.

That’s why it’s best not to send an LOI until it’s really necessary. You can send an update letter closer to May when the waitlist movement happens.
