Waitlisted at MSUCOM?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the same email. Of course I am going to accept because they are my #2 choice. I heard they rank their waitlist too. Is MSU your top choice? Anyway, good luck.

I am also waitlisted .... 🙁 ... man I was really hoping to get in without an interview ...

After doing some reasearch in the past the most they have let in off the waitlist was 69 and the least they let in was 29 ... so hopefully things work out

To those on the waitlist. Mind posting your MCAT scores and GPA's?

Also, were you waitlisted based on your secondary alone or did you have interviews?

Thanks and good luck. 🙂

Whoa triple post. Take it easy on the submit button, it didnt even do anything bad to you 🙂luck🙂.

Alot of my freinds were/are waitlisted. I wish you guys lots of luck, hope you all get in.

How much time elapsed between submission of 2ndary and waitlist notification? Thanks for any input, it is really appreciated.

I actually received an email today saying that if I am not taken off the wait list this year, they can guarantee a position for next year. I hope that this is a good sign. But I wondering, if they can offer me a position next year, and I have been waitlisted this year (which basically means they want to accept me but they just want to see if some of the people that they have offered admittance to will accept) then why not just accept me now? I am praying and hoping I get in this year, well anyway, good luck to everyone who has already been admitted, to those who are on the waitlist, and to those who are still waiting to hear something. At the end of the day, you have to look at it this way, it they waitlisted you, they think you have what it takes to be a doctor.

Primer, thats a really good thing that they sent you the email about accepting you next year if you don't get in this year. B/w is MSU your 1st choice?

To Protease's question about submission of my secondary. I had submitted it in september but was incomplete coz they had a problem with the LOR forms. and then my letter writers took forever to complete them and send it back. So i would say i prolly wasn't complete till end of Nov/ early dec. (I didn't call to ask them the date). I guess that might be the reason i got wailisted. Nonetheless, while i would really like to go to MSU, i have another acceptance to bank on. Hopefully tho, MSU would accept me.

Actually University of Michigan is my first choice. But the odds of that happening are slim. But.......There is a God. I actually have another acceptance as a back up, but honestly I don't want to leave MI. So yeah, I am from MI. I can also go to Ohio States post bac program. Anyway, I would say that MSU is my #2 choice followed very closely by Wayne State. Just keep praying everybody, don't get down. Oh, and listen to that song by U2 called: "Its a Beautiful Day." I love that part where they say: "What you don't have you don't need it now, what you don't know, you can feel it some how." Good luck.

If it is your top choice, I would send them a letter of intent and let them know that even though you have an acceptance somewhere else you would still like to attend MSU. :luck:

Contacting them isn't a bad idea. My buddy got the waitlist email, then went to the school and met with the dean of admissions last week. Just today he got the email guaranteeing him a spot for 2012 if he didn't get in this year. Maybe his little meeting helped, I don't know, but they're his # choice and he made that known. We're both from MI btw. Good Luck!

Just wanted to say good luck to every one who is waiting or wait listed!

Hi guys, just wanted to say to keep your chin up if you're on the waitlist. If you got an interview you are obviously medical school material🙂 I'm on the waitlist, but I just got accepted at my first choice and I'm going to notify MSU, maybe that will bump somebody up👍 Good Luck

My question is: If they can guarantee admission for next year, why not just admit me this year? Do you guys think that since they offered us a guaranteed position for next year we are pretty high up on the waitlist. Just wondering. I have a final in 20 minutes, I've got to get going.

Maybe for those who are in the cusp in the grades / mcat dept or something.... If you show the interest to take a year off to go to their school, they can tell you are dedicated to going to MSU and becoming a physician. So maybe that is why... They figure even though your marks may not be where they want them, a year off of to go to MSU might make up for it?

Just a theory??

P.S - I did talk to the admissions office back when I was applying and for all you in the waitlist, they do take a lot of people off the list, like 40 - 70 yearly... So that's good news for you all

THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE! 🙂 I got waitlisted for the second year in a row at MSU. Obviously they didn't take me for the 2006 starting class. This year, I went on the tour that they invited me to, and then I got the email that I might have a chance for '07, but if not, then I'm GUARANTEED for 2008!!! 😉 I don't want to lose another year, but I am willing to sacrafice it for my top choice school! I figure I could continue to work and save up for the massive expenses that lie ahead! 🙄 Life doesn't get any better than this! Can you imagine, I was actually signed up and have been studying for the mcat again, planning to take it in January! My whole life was put on hold. And then I got this news! So take it from me everyone trying to fulfill their dreams.... good things happen to those who wait! GOODLUCK EVERYONE!!! :luck: And Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 😍

Thank you so much for this post. It gives me some form of hope 🙂

So are you going to still take the MCAT again in January? The reason I ask is because it is possible to greatly improve your position on the waitlist, or even get an offer of admission for now. Especially since they are getting those MCAT scores out faster now... Just a thought -

WALKIE - That is a good point and I definitely did ask about that. They said that a higher mcat score would not affect my position on the list. The way their list works is that when you are on it, they want you but they don't have room for you at the moment. So if the accepted people give up their spot, then they take candidates from the waitlist. So hopefully that happens!!! If not, then they (MSU) are kind enough to hold a spot for me for the following year, which I have no problem waiting for. ARE U KIDDING ME.... I'm GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!!!! What is another year, I've waited my whole life for this! BEST WISHES AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!! (sorry for the extreme enthusiasm, I still don't believe this is happening to me, I'm so freakin' excited!!!)

I'm so happy that you are so excited about MSU! We won't be in the same class but I'll be excited to be at a school with someone else who is so enthusiastic about MSUCOM🙂

well that is a great outlook to have - if you make it off the waitlist we will be in the same class, but either way, I look forward to seeing you around there eventually!

The waitlist is definitely ranked, and I believe it's the top 50-55 people that are provided a guaranteed admission for the next academic year. They're not admitting you YET because they don't have enough spots to do so (generally, 85-90% of the class is full by the end of December). But, before you go cry in the corner, listen to my story. Because of a snafu in the admissions office receiving my LORs, I didn't get interviewed until March, and was waitlisted in April and told I had a guaranteed admission for 2007. But, while MSUCOM was definitely my #1, I had already taken five years to finish undergrad (curse those pre-med requirements) and I REALLY didn't want to lose another year, because my prospective field has a very long residency as it is. So after I graduated in May, I was resigned to attending one of those allopathic schools 😡, but I got a call on June 2 telling me that I was admitted to MSUCOM 😍 Orientation started June 28...that month was pretty crazy, to say the least.

So, anyway, those of you anxiously crunching numbers and assessing your chances, take from my story what you will. Good luck to all of you still trying to get in...above all, don't give up hope. You never know what's going to happen 😀

I just wanted to give some hope to those on the waitlist. I was on the waitlist for the MSUCOM class of 2006. I interviewed some time in Jan. and got the call from the school, while golfing on vacation on July 8th !!!!, apparently I was literatly the last person admitted that year. While in Med school I did very well "honoring" a few classes, graduating in the top 15% of the class and now a resisdent in IM hopefully leading to a spot in Cardiology.

It might feel hopeless being on wailtists, I was on all of them in Michigan, but know that the college staff does like you to show that you want to go there.

does anyone have any idea how many people they PUT ON the waitlist every year ???

Hey guys. I believe that one of the reasons they will have additional room for Fall 2008 is because MSUCOM will open a 2nd campus in the detroit area (location still up in the air). This will open I think about another 100-150 slots due to the new campus. Hope that helps! Hopefully the plans will go through and they can find the location in time to open on schedule with the academic year!
Good Luck!

I think 2008 is a long shot.. There were some articles a while ago stating 2008, but when I talked to Kathie this summer she said it was going to be at least 5 years by the time they pick a location, set it up and set up classes... She said there is quite a bit of politics involved. Who knows

Two months ago, Dr. Falls said "two years" until they open a campus in southeast MI. Who knows...just throwing it out there.

I've been placed on the waitlist this year too and I'm VERY excited at the chance of going to MSUCOM. They have a great program. 😀

Just a quick question though, the email that I received said that after reviewing my application, an interview was "superfluous". Has anyone here heard of someone being accepted into medical school without an interview? It seemed rather strange to me. They did make an offer for me to visit MSUCOM and "interview them" however, which I plan on attending February 14th. Is anybody else visiting them that day? It'd be great to finally meet some of you.

Til then!

It is the policy at MSUCOM to admit students without an interview. They did this because they felt that many times shy people who were not as inclined to be open and talkative during an interview were not given acceptances despite qualifying grades/scores.
So, they do accept many people without interviews.

Does anyone here know if there's been any movement on the waitlist at Michigan State? I'm just curious....though I realize that most of the movement will probably be later rather than sooner.

Good luck to you all....

Also waitlisted at MSUCOM- if anyone knows of any movement, please inform

How many students does MSUCOM usually waitlist?

MSUCOM has now (As of 3-21-07) started admitting people off the wait list, the number is in single digits I think (thus far). If you are informed that you are on the wait list with a guaranteed acceptance next year, then you are in the top half of the wait list (or thereabouts).

Good luck!!

I was pulled off of the waitlist on March 14th. Good luck to everyone still waiting. MSUCOM takes a lot of people from the waitlist, so keep up the faith.

Congrats on getting in.

If you don't mind me asking, were you in the "top 1/3" or the "bottom 2/3" of their rankings....?

I'm patiently somewhere in the bottom...

So in the waitlist email they sent you, if it said you were guaranteed admission for Fall 2008, then you are near the top half. If it said something about getting counseling for your application to reapply, then you are near the bottom half. I went to visit MSUCOM a few weeks ago, and the Director of Admissions said that their waitlist from year to year is quite variable, so that's why they don't like to give it information about your standing and whether you might get in or not.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows if the waitlist has started moving yet. I've heard they don't take people off until May but I figured if spots were opening up that maybe they'd start filling those spots before people commit other places. Thanks and good luck to everyone else still waiting.

I'm wondering the same thing as Colbert. I'm on the waiting list but have automatic admission into the class starting in 2008. I kinda have all my eggs in the MSU COM basket and I'm starting to get a little nervous. Anybody know what my chances are for getting off the waitlist for this year or when the waitlist really starts to move??

Thanks

I was also waitlisted with an acceptance for 2008. I recieved a phone call a couple weeks ago and was taken off the waitlist and accepted for this year. So yes the waitlist has started moving. Good luck!! Just for your 411, next years entering class must have Genetics as a prerec.

Congrats on getting pulled off the waitlist and thanks for the good news "cervezarob". Would you mind sharing your stats so i could get a feel for where I am on the waitlist? Why can't the just call me!!

26 MCAT and 4.0 GPA. I hope to see ya in June. Good Luck

Hey Cervezarob, thanks a lot for the info/update, and congrats on getting in! Might I ask where you did your undergrad?

I'm In !!! Decisions, Decisions 🙂

Feel free to say no and give me a chance Primer. Just kidding, Congrats!!

I have a 3.72 GPA from LBS MSU and a 27 MCAT. How far down the list do you think I am?
