Hey guys. So I'm OOS and had my interview at Tufts on 2/11. Tufts was one of my top choices but unfortunately I had an interview with a terrible, socially quiet and awkward D4 student and that I knew did it for me. I thought I was going to get rejected after that but I found out today through portal that I got waitlisted...

What do you think my chances are from here...? Has anyone heard how full they are now. I was scared of getting waitlisted anywhere because I just feel like that's the same thing as rejection. How many people actually get in off the waitlist anywhere, like really 🙁

Hey man, you were at my interview (I was the guy to your right who had an interview with the prof who asked a lot of ethical questions). I had an offer made but will probably withdraw soon, and I will withdraw soon from Maryland too within the week...I remember you said you were waitlisted there too. Keep your head up, waitlists DO move and here comes two open spots for you. Good luck!!!!!

oh hey man! that's good to hear you got in, congrats bro 🙂 so you thought it went SO bad remember but you were just psyching yourself out, OR they were trying to psych YOU out! one or the other.

thanks man... we'll see; seriously. I had an interview at UPenn last week and they said we'll hear back in about two weeks. I think both my interviews at Penn went really well so I'm definitely waiting to hear back from them too. But I wanted to go to Tufts SO bad! gaaawwwddd haha....

did you hear back from NYU?

Ya I got accepted to NYU like three months ago haha. Well if you get into Penn i will most likely see you there! (I am going to Penn atm...unless i hear back from Columbia, my interview at Columb was 2weeks ago)

I didn't feel the vibe of tufts was for me and my interview really put me off so that is my reasoning for tufts.

Oh my bad  Why are you choosing Penn over NYU when they both cost roughly the same for you and I? just curious

NYU would actually be cheaper for me since I don't have to pay for living. BUT i am tired of commuting to school. My undergrad barely had a campus experience (majority commuter school), and I want to try something new, and Penns campus was awesome. I also thought Penn's curriculum (medical influence, tests every week/not blocks, higher specialization rates, smaller class size) would be more conducive to learning, but this is just my opinion.

Right..who in their right mind would want to go to an Ivy League school? ;P

all of which are great reasons. All I can still think about though is..
...WAITLIST.. =/ i hope this will be my first and last cycle....

It seems you are hinting that he should consider them as equals other than cost alone. No offense but that is equivocal nonsense at best.

Hey guys,

I'm waitlisted too at Tufts. I called middle of last week and the Admissions said that as of now....

1. They are not giving out any more interviews.
2. There are 22 people who have paid the deposit for the waitlist so far.
3. There is no ranking in being waitlisted-they pull everyones file again for an equal review if spots do open up.
4. Spots won't be seen until late May/early June.

Thats just what I heard. Hope it helps.

Goodluck all.

thanks man, any update since then?

I posted this on the acceptance thread as well, but I was told this week that a few weeks ago a limited number of acceptances were offered to applicants on the wait list. They are still confirming the class size and there is a possibility there may be a few more offers made. However, the number and when that would happen is uncertain at this time.

Anyone else waitlisted this year? Or anyone who successfully got off the waitlist last year? All I can find about Tufts' waitlist on here and as they said at my interview, is that they end up taking very few people from the waitlist which totally bums me out. This is my third year applying and Tufts was the only interview I received... granted I still have about 12 schools I haven't heard from yet, but I doubt getting in any of them since it's already pretty late in the game.

I did also apply really late -- It wasn't my intention to apply this year until I heard my DAT scores wouldn't be good next year, so I figured I would take my chances. I really really don't want to have to take the DAT again and apply a forth time... I'm getting too old for this D;

You need to do a masters in a biomedical science. The gpa is holding you back and you need to prove to admissions that you can handle the workload required in dental school.

I know you are getting older, but this is what is needed. If you feel like you can't put in two more yrs of getting your stats up then look into a easier professional degree (pharmacy, podiatry..etc).

I am in a graduate program for biomedical sciences right now, which is why I was originally going to wait until next year to apply.

Sorry, let me make this a little more clear in what I've done since that first very old post of mine (if that's what you're looking at).

In the past few years.. first I only took a couple classes while working -- one because I didn't realize AP credit wasn't accepted for most schools, and one that I had gotten a D in before. Got an A & B, I can't remember what my new GPAs are offhand. Moved to be closer to friends/family and yay to an area that has more dental clinics! Got my dental x-ray safety certificate while I tried to find dentistry-related work, but every dentist turned me down when they heard I was applying since they were sure I would get in right away. They wanted to hire someone they could keep for a while. Got into this graduate program. Volunteered about 40 hours at a dental clinic and wish I could do more but I'm trying to focus on school right now.

So.. that's that. I'm almost 30 since I worked for a few years after graduating. I don't really care for any other healthcare profession since I prefer hands on work and want to do something that would also utilize my artistic side.. none of them seemed as interesting to me as dentistry. I wouldn't mind retaking the DAT so much except that I was very surprised by my scores and am doubtful I can beat them again.

I was waitlisted as well.
I know the deposit is due within 12 days or something, but I havent received any information regarding the wait list. Where and what amount should I send my deposit to? and do we have to like formally accept the wait list offer? Sorry for all the not so informed questions.

I really suggest you call the admissions office with these questions. They are very helpful, and I would hate for you to get the wrong information off of SDN.

I received a packet in the mail over the weekend with a bunch of forms and stuff that need to be sent in with the wait list deposit. You should get it soon if you still haven't -- maybe it was delayed from the holiday.

I've been wait listed too, it's kinda sad because my interviewer kept on assuring me that she will see me next year. Oh well.

Tufts was my 4th interview, I had really lost hope at that point. I just got an acceptance though, so keep your head up!

Man....your interviewer must have been really bad. My fourth year student interviewer was awesome. I got accepted yesterday also. Keep you head up! I'm sure they take a lot from the waitlist since the class it so big. Good luck!👍

My interview actually went very very well, better than my BU one (which I was accepted to), so I'm not sure as to why I was waitlisted.

If it was a late interview it was likely more a space issue than anything to do with you. Lots of applicants are interviewed late in the cycle and as much the interviewers may want to take all of the ones who impress them, it's simply not going to happen due to the limited numbers of remaining seats.

Many people who attend Tufts interview this late, they attend because it's either their first choice or have no acceptances yet. This means it will be very rare for them to turn down their acceptances once they get in, so many seats won't be available.

Good luck!

As an aside, read the OP in this thread - can't say that I hope that said applicant got accepted. I knew all the D11 interviewers in that class and they were all superior clinicians and great people - I don' think bashing your interviewer on a public forum is a great thing.
