I interviewed there on the 20th of December and recieved a mail today telling me I was an "alternate" for admission. Not sure what my chances for admission there are. I did really good this past semester (3.75) would it be worthwhile forwarding those grades to them (since they don't have them)? I interviewed at LECOM FL today and have upcoming interviews at both Touro campuses.

I think, and somebody please correct me if I am wrong, this early in the game, you have a fairly good shot at getting in to med school if you are "Accepted/Hold" or "Wailisted" or "Alternate". I am sure there are many applicants like me with multiple acceptance letters. They will eventually decide on the best school and release seats at other med schools. Then there is a "May-Fator". In may, when MD candidates with multiple acceptances are forced to make a final decision about school, many MD school spots open then, and the trickle effect is DO school applicants (waitlisted at MD schools) filling those spots and opening up seats at DO schools. So don't worry, just hang in there. You will be fine. Good luck.

Just wrote them a letter declining my acceptance, so there's one more spot!

good luck!

Yes...forward the updated grades. They can only help.

how well did you do on the mcat? Do you have previous medical experience? Most of all--how did your interview go? I personally feel all of these are more inportant that gpa

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I appreciate it and will forward my updated transcripts to LECOM Erie, hopefully it'll help.

@Bandit:
I did pretty crappy on the MCAT, I got a 24. The only thing worthwhile about my score was that I got a 10 on Biological Sciences.
I've had a fair amount of previous medical experience, I shadowed a DO (had him write the letter of recommendation) and have volunteered in hospitals.
I am guessing my interview didn't go well cuz I was a bit nervous since it was my first interview. I think the LECOM Bradenton interview went better (the doctors actually put down the generic, ho-hum sheets and started asking more personal questions in an interested way). I was able to stop myself from saying "um's" and "uh's" but I probably talked a little too fast! 😳 Also, if the interview went well why would they tell me I'm an alternate? That's another reason I'm assuming it didn't go well.
It sucks being put on the wire like this, I have no clue what to expect now, the part that was particularly annoying was that they said that it could take 'till August before they'd accept me or reject me.

All advice is appreciated, thanks again!

I agree, send them the grades. If nothing else opens up elsewhere, then just be sure to keep in contact with them. Ask them what you could do to increase your chances. Maybe get an extra letter of rec sent from one of your professors, maybe one of the classes you just finished, and have them do it ASAP. I do beleive you have time like doctor2be mentioned. But if you want to increase your chances, I would focus on courting the school the best you can. Make yourself the best alternate available. WHomever they choose to give the open spots to will be the ones they beleive will attend their school if given the spot. So make them beleive you are that candidate, without going overboard of course.

Good luck and hope to see you in the spring.

Send the new scores and surely stay in contact with the school. I am not sure what other schools you applied too, or which schools are among your top choices. If LECOM is one of them, a letter of intent couldn't hurt. Show them that the 1500 dollar deposit does not intimidate you and that if they offer you a spot that you would likely accept. Other things such as additional letters couldn't hurt either. I wish you the best of luck, and hope to see you in Erie 👍

I am sending in my letter tomorrow, so another seat will be open... but if I understand LECOM they don't review the waitlist until spring time after all of their interviews.

That actually is not true. Unfortunately, I too interviewed on Dec 20th and I was put on the alternate list. It was not my interview that held me back but probably my undergrad. I talked to the admissions person today to verify that I will be on the alternate list and she said they review the alternate list files when each set of reviews is done. Good luck

is lecom-erie your preference over bradenton?.. trust me, you'll be happier down here, but of course only if pbl is your preferred pathway...

good luck

About LECOM, can they if you applied to ERie, send you to Brandeton??
Or they'd just waitlist you at LECOM...
I don't want to go to Brandeton, and haven't interviewed yet at Erie, but wondered.

So what is LECOM Erie looking for? I've checked out mdapplicants.com and noted they don't seem too impressed by super MCAT's or GPA's. Are they looking for a confident leader who can be a team player, or a compassionate well rounded individual? What is thier emphasis? thank s

As a current LECOM MS I LDPer, I'd say LECOM tries to look beyond the numbers. They realize there is more to being a physician than what's on paper. As you said, they like to find people that are good confident leaders and those that are also well-rounded. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people here w/ the knockout scores as well, but overall there's a good mix of people. hope that helps. Drop me a Private Message or email if you have any questions.

I agree that you should send the new info- it couldn't hurt. Also keep in touch with the admissions office- especially if this is your first choice school. The more they hear from you and see your name across their desk in a positive way- the better your chances of getting pulled from the wait list. When is your interview at Tuoro- Nv? I'm currently a first year there and would love to give you more info about us if interested. You can email me at [email protected].
