Waitlisted...what next??

Is there anything you can do once you are waitlisted for a school?For example, sending a letter abt what you are doing over the summer.
Also, is it possible to know where you are on the waitlist?

Try having a few pizzas delivered to the adcom's offices that you were waitlisted, and inside the boxes, have a letter (that you faxed to the pizza places) taped on the cover!!!

note:
This may not be wise... I was just throwing out ideas that I see Pharm. Reps. doing on a daily basis to various doctor offices.

one thing that can definitely help is incessantly talking about the negatives of the school you're waitlisted on here at sdn, since people seem to rely so heavily on the opinions they read here, it might help open up spots.

letter of intent, whatever that is. helps. the occasional status check phone call/email might help too.

also you might have to actually wait.

First of all I'd like to say PublicEnemy, you crack me up! You rule. Now about the update letter...my friend wrote an update letter to the schools he was waitlisted at. It was similar to the personal statement, but listed the new activities he had done and his research, etc. If you write a letter of intent to a school, it says you will withdraw your waitlist positions at other schools and attend that school if accepted. It's not binding or anything, but I don't know how great of an idea it is to do that to multiple schools. I don't know much about it. The other schools would never know if you did that, right? What do people think about this?

I am waitlisted and did 🙂 all the usual letters, e-mails etc. You have to be pro-active and move on. I don't want to seem harsh but I have been accepted to Ross and have my mindset in that direction. It all depends how much you can handle mentally and emotionally by going out of the country. I hope I have helped you somewhat. At this point, I don't think many spots will open up. It seems all the movement has been completed after all the deposits were in. Good luck!

It never hurts to keep in touch with the admissions dept, and keep them abreast of what you have been doing, and that you are still interested. It might be wise to take classes during the interm, volunteer, research.....something productive in the medical direction...

What were your stats like??

I am waitlisted at several schools as well and I decided to be proactive as well and applied to AUC if I am accepted (I should hear 7-6) I will be going there with out a question! I know several people who went there and they have excellent positions and are veryt happy with the education they received there.

Don't get me wrong... I think that carribean med schools are definitely great at giving people the chance to achieve their dreams.

BUT! I would be a little worried about going out of the country now (being an American and all). There are alot of people that don't really like us right now.. you know?

I would be more concerned about PBL at Bradenton than AUC on St. Martin or St. Matthew's on Grand Cayman! Have you ever travelled before abroad?

back to futuredoc's original post... i've concluded that it's perfectly normal to get waistlisted and ultimately rejected your first time around... in fact i think it's all part of a conspiracy to suck as much money as they can from poor college students 😡
...anyway i was waitlisted at two schools last year.. didnt get in.. and went on with my life.... did a post-bac program...reapplied and now goin to med school in the fall....
...so basically it all depends on how much you want to be a physician... i thought waiting another year to reapply was gonna kill me... but it didn't... my experiences this year have definitely made me a stronger person as cliche as that sounds...

My friend is there right now and he is completely miserable. If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Ross University School of Medicine have a rep. for producing MDs and saturating the American market? Yeah, they could do that because they were (AT THE TIME) concerned with quality, not quantity. HOWEVER, since Ross' sell to Devry, that had all changed! Now they are more interested in getting money, not education.

My friend has told me that the class has doubled there and that, if he had known before he left, he would have waiting another year to go to an American school.

The comment that I made...You know...the one that you quoted in your ******ed response, was because of the threat of terrorism to Americans you shallow aS$hole.

ummmm. I am trying to figure out this paragraph, are you saying ross used to produce quality and saturate the market or they now are mass producing MD licenses and are saturating the market? He was saying they produced a bunch of doctors, but it was ok because they were supposedly doctors that received a good education, but now that has changed.

And to keep this thread on track, I think sending in letters of intent/new LORs/etc. are beneficial while being on a waitlist.
