This Q is for those of you who may have an experiences with AACOMAS and foreign transcripts. I actually e-mailed them last night, and had my answer earlier this morning 😀 . Wow, AACOMAs is really fast. I explained to them that I did my undergrad at the college that now has three D.O schools (take a wild guess 😛 which one). So now I want t go to their med school. Partial credits for my udergrad were granted to me for attending medical school in Russia in the mid 1980s. Here is a tricky part...Touro had a list of 3 evaluation services from which they accept foreign transcripts for a consideration. All was done, some credits were applied towards my undergrad. Now almost 8 yrs later after graduating with my b.S. degree it turns out that AACOMAS has at least 5 different eval services which deal with foreign transcripts, but the one that did it for me (don't want to name them) is not listed. So I'm kind of screwed I guess. I feel very reluctant to go through this process all over again 😡 . I've already paid for it once, waited e.t.c. Had I known it I would have gone to my undergrad as a freshmen. Besides Touro gave me a "cr" for credit, but there is no actual grades for the GPA calculation. I did take bio here so it'll go for my GPA calc. So, I decided to ask for a waiver since I'm going to take all the pre-reqs to show AACOMAS my current work, and hopefully to NEVER EVER again turn to the country that basically threw me and my family out about 18 years ago ( that's ahalf of my life, btw).

So the e-mail from AACOMAS stated that I should request a waiver if I have difficulty obtaining them. I guess the "difficulty" is it's uselessness for any academic value, unnecessary expences (I've already paid to get it done for my undergrad), and yes, a great psychological strain in dealing with the country that I have no desire to see or hear about ever again in my life. By that I mean it's current regime, rather than many, many great folks who are still there.

So the Q is did any of you waived foreign transcript evaluation. If yes, what was the reason? Please pm, if it's not for a public forum.

Thank You very much

I had called AACOMAS with a question about my transcript from Australia. I did a year at James Cook University, taking my biology with lab & organic chem I there. They told me that since it was a non-accredited university (there are a list of them), that I did not have to submit a transcript from them, since they transferred to my undergraduate institution. Now, I called the JCU, anyhow, and went through SOOO much trouble to have them mail my transcripts to AACOMAS. AACOMAS received them, and noted them as unidentified institution. Anyhow, as they were verifying my classes, I received an e-mail telling me my file was on hold until they received my transcript--which they already had! So, I e-mailed them and mentioned how they told me they did not need it, though they already had it. Within a day, it was cleared up. Now, if you undergrad institution took the credits, then you may not need the transcript at all. However, transferring, from the impression they gave me, may require a transcript. But, as long as your classes transferred here, and appear as credit (mine were all credits, no grades, so they didnt even factor in), you should not need a transcript. I would recommend calling them again! I definitely did not need them for AMCAS, though some schools may want a transcript on their own--though I have had no problems, so far. I hope that helps!

Thanks Hera182! I appreciate the repply. I hope they won't give me a hard time time with that. The irony is the institution that accepted those credits for the undergrad is the same school I'm applying to for D.O (well, I'll try some others too, but...this one is a top choice anyway). But AACOMAS does not have that company listed as the official eval/transl service. That really sucks. So you guys understand my frustration. I'm wondering how many of you have been successful at conviencing AACAMAS to give you a waiver? These credits by now would be over 20 years old for G-D sakes, and have no academic value whatsoever!😱 Some of you applying are probably the same as age as those credits:laugh: . And this was not a completed M.D degree which perhaps could have given me some advantage in getting in emigre' physician at NYCOM or something like that. And I don't know how much of an "exrenuating" reason it may be, but I just don't want anybody in the "old country" on the official side to know what I'm up to. I was accepted to the U.S under the "refugee" status, and I have been living here for the half of my life (not only adult life). I've been a U.S.A citizen for close to 15 years. Why do I have to bend over backwards to beg for "mercy" the country that did everything possible for me and my family to leave? I know it could be argued that now they are all "new and improved commies", but quite frankly I don't get a rat's rear end about them. I "love" them only from a very, and I mean VERY respectable distance. So those of you who had managed to arrange for a waiver...please pm me on the reasons. I don't want to come across as lazy, and it's really a b!tch to go through it all over again, pay for it again, and all for what😡 ??? I'm retaking all pre-reqs here anyway, and had work at bedside in US for the past 17 years.

Thanks

I have transfered my courses done in th UK to a school here in the US. Hera you said that you have some experience with AMCAS concerning this. Did the med schools ask for the foreign transcript?
