  1. Pre-Medical
I noticed older threads for the pre 2013 version of this program but nothing about the program that is now in place to begin this summer. I was sent an email today saying that they are still working on making final decisions and that applicants will receive final notifications around March 17th. I was just wondering if anybody else applied and if so (hey!) did they get the same news or a different email today.

Can you post a link to the program website. I called Wake a few months ago and the good lady had no idea what I'm talking about

I was accepted today, anyone else?
Congrats. Lucky u. They said they only take 10 students. R u a NC resident? Do you mind sharing your stats and your experience applying to this program?

I didn't hear back from them today- i bet that is a bad sign

Oh- and congrats Jessica!

Sure! I have a 3.0 sgpa and cgpa. No mcat but a decent GRE. Chem major and biology minor. VA resident. I attended Yales SMDEP, volunteered in Guatemala hospital for a summer, research 3 years with an REU program. Worked full time through college as an undergraduate hall director, TA'd and tutored. I am a first generation college student. Hope this helps!

Impressive. Good luck to you

Hey there! I was accepted to Wake Forest's program as well. Hi future classmates! I'm an NC resident. Did my undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill. Graduated with a sub 3.0 GPA in 2011 (Biology Major). Then I did an unofficial post bacc at a local university to improve my science and overall GPA, which took a year.Worked (and still am working) as a medical scribe in a rural community for 1.5 years. Took the MCAT and scored about average. Applied to Wake Forest...and here I am, ready to matriculate in the summer 🙂 Oh, I am a first generation college student as well.

I wanted to chime in because I live within driving distance of Wake Forest. 🙂. I am not going for that program because for one it is too expensive for what I can afford right now and second, I am doing my post bacc program ala carte. For those that do get accepted and will end up living in the area, send me a message!

Waitlisted today. I wonder how long their list is? Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

Any updates from anyone?? jessicalee92 has started a FB group for those planning to attend this program 🙂

I was rejected about a week or so ago. I live about 2 miles from both the Reynolda and Bowman Gray campuses. I graduated from Salem College with a BS in Biology and a 3.6 GPA, and I was an undergraduate TA for the laboratory portion of A&P and Biodiversity. I spent a lot of time tutoring during my time as an undergraduate. But I lack any real clinical experience (besides a short career as a CNA at a nursing home). I have volunteered for over 100 hours at the cardiac rehab facility in OBX and I have delivered for meals on wheels once a month from 2009-2011 (I find this amount of volunteering to be neither shockingly high or low). However, my MCAT score was very low, 23. I am not sure if this is why I was rejected- but I sure hope not- I think very differently than most people and it is a shame that a standardized test score may have ruined my chances of attending a school I have grown to admire and love during my ten years in Winston-Salem.

But all is not gloom and doom- I am very happy to say I will be attending the Biomedical Forensic Science program at Syracuse University, which is also a premedical post bacc masters program. Congrats to all of you that will be attending the program at Wake Forest- it is a great school and Winston-Salem is a fantastic place to live. I wish you all the best- and if anyone wants to keep in touch- I would love that. Would be really nice to have a person to pen-pal with about our different experiences within our given programs.

And... I will be around town for another month or so if any of you future Wake students would like a little tour around town or even just a ride somewhere. I am not sure if I will be able to help, but I would love to if my schedule permits it-cheers

I talked to their office a few days ago. They said the waitlist is five people long, but that the class size is only 10. I'm not sure what that means for me, but apparently accepted kids have to decide by April 15th, and we'll be informed by April 18th. I'm a senior at Wake, so it's pretty strange waiting to hear from a school that you are about to graduate from. Fingers crossed!

Since I live in the nearby area, I hear about Wake Forest occasionally...not to mention I drive past it a lot lol. I was told by a therapist I work with that it is sooo over priced her husband is regretting attending WF to the point he contemplated quitting. Her husband also complains about his peers a lot, he states that they are mostly young kids with parents that have a lot of $.(he sounds nontraditional lol) He attends med school, not the post bacc program.

I assume that all of you have looked at the prices of WF, but just in case you didn't.......

Glad to hear you got into Syracuse! Many congrats to you as well! I also think it would be cool to keep each other updated on our endeavors. Not to sound overly dramatic, but I love to hear about non trads doing their thing and succeeding in their goals. Oh and I SO hear ya on the standardized test thing. Such a necessary evil, unfortunately haha.

It's unfortunate to hear about your friend's experience at Wake Forest. I hope he doesn't quit haha! Quite few of my classmates from Carolina (who have similar backgrounds as me...people of color, disadvantaged backgrounds) went there for med school and really like it. Also people from the previous certificate granting post bacc program at Wake had positive things to say. I agree, the price is quite steep and is definitely something I took into consideration.

And just as a general question....do those of you familiar with Winston Salem have any housing recommendations??

If you google forsyth tech community college, a lot of cheap apartments surrounding that campus and easy access to bus routes. If you want a family friendly neighborhood, I recommend my neighborhood! heheh. I am in Clemmons, it is a very family oriented, quiet, safe area. It will cost a little more to live in Clemmons versus downtown Winston salem or near the community college, but if you have children I would highly recommend Clemmons. Our public school systems are excellent for the little ones, that is why I pushed to find a small house in Clemmons, purely to get my child in this school district.

I recognize that one person complaining about a school does not mean it is true. I know it is expensive though, whew.....

Thanks for the kind words- Your question about housing...
My first thought was Crown Park Apartments (http://crownepark.com). Located about 3 driving min. from campus. When my family moved from TX to Winston-Salem in 2002 we lived in Crown Park for several months. Our duration there was short-it was temporary living while we searched for a house- but it was a great experience. Wake Forest students were a large portion of the inhabitants; however, the complex was not full of loud noise or other shenanigans and was instead very quiet and peaceful. I think you would enjoy it- but I am sure it is too expensive or just not what you were looking for anyway.

I do know a couple of people looking for roommates- the living situations are different-and may provide you with what you are looking for
Just let me know if you would like to know more about the above information

and Lupacupcake
You are sooo right about the price. Med school is too expensive as it is and to add an additional $35,000 (or whatever it may be) to the bill seems insane... Unfortunately, given my background, I will not get into med school without completing and achieving high marks at one of these programs. Everyday I question if my decision to attend a post bacc program is the right one.
With that said- has anyone found a great way ease the tuition burden?

Accepted off the waitlist today. Anyone know what classes we take during Summer semester? I know it's only 6 credits, but I can't find the exact classes anywhere.

those that are accepted or nearby. We should meet up one day downtown in Winston Salem!!! We could meet at mellow mushroom (very "chill" pizza place, the pizza is amazingly good.

Anyone interested, send me a private message! It never hurts to make friends with like minded individuals.

Could someone let me know what the acceptances look like this year in regard to their cGPA, sGPA, etc? I've read that applicants should have at least a "B" average, but I am unsure of whether that is cumulative or science. Also, if it is cumulative, is it just from the degree granting institution or is it calculated in the same way medical schools calculate GPA?
I would just like to hear personal stories about those accepted, if you're willing to share.
Thank you! 🙂

Hey guys, I'll be applying to this program next year, it sounds great and congrats to those accepted. I had a question about it though, is there a guarantee to get into the Wake Forest medical school if you meet a certain GPA through the program (like Drexel's DPMS), or is it kinda like they pick and choose which of the 10 they will take? Thanks again

Nope, no set in stone guarantee anymore. As for who gets in, we will have to see how this year goes to give a little more insight and feedback about it once we know a little more 🙂

Hopefully someone that got into this program can update us on if they still have some form of conditional acceptance, or if the program gave you any info about how the program (changes/what it's like etc). Thanks and good luck to those in the program

So far, we have been told there is a guaranteed interview but everything about our potential acceptance has been very intentionally vague. Since this program is new to them as well, I think they are not really sure either. The changes otherwise are not huge. We have a project we develop (some working with research groups, others public health related) that qualifies us for a masters, and there is mcat prep and public health workshops this summer. Otherwise, the course curriculum and professors appear to be the same and it is the same advising team. Hope this helps!

Could any former post-bacc people chime in on the current state of the program? The website gives no mention of medical school acceptance rates, linkages, where the students end up, etc.

Hey, I know its been a while since this thread was active, but I was hoping you could offer some insight on the Wake post-bac program?

I was recently offered a position for this upcoming year and I was really hoping to get some info on the number of students in your co-hort matriculated into medical schools (at Wake and elsewhere) and about your experience applying to medical schools.

Thank you!
