In terms of prestige, academics, and location/school environment which would you choose

aside from the fact that wake is a lot more expensive if you are in state

1. whichever one you get into
2. whichever one gives you the most FA
3. whichever one you 'clicked' more with on revisit day
4. whichever one has better connections/rotations/exposure/clinical years for a few fields ur interested in
5. whichever one fits ur learning style more during preclinical years

thats the priority for me

In terms of prestige,

UNC has an edge here, although it is not huge, and I would not factor it into the equation unless you really need a tie-breaker.

academics,

Functionally equivalent from the standpoint of a medical student.

Chapel Hill >>>>>>>>> (gasp, pant) >>>>>>>>>> (gasp, cough) >>>>>>>>>> (heave, cough) >>>>>>>>>>Winston-Salem.

But that's just my opinion.

School wise it's close IMO... location wise, Winston-Salem shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Chapel-Hill though.

In my opinion Wake is the better school and regarded more highly. Baptist is the best hospital in the state by a number of factors, even the region.

Winston does in fact blow but I'd rather not be a Tar Hole. Pissing match engaged

You could make this argument for any NC hospital with nationally ranked programs (Duke, UNC, CMC, Wake). Also UNC gets around 3x the NIH money that wake does.

Only Lvl 1 Peds in the state isn't something to wag a finger at! but you make a valid point

Every system will have strong points. UNC's burn center, for example. That said, for a level 1 trauma center, Wake sends an awful lot of emergent stuff our way. Not that it matters at all for your experience as a med student.

I'd pick UNC in a heartbeat.

Everything west of Raleigh gets sent to Wake and is not split up between two hospitals like at UNC and Duke.

Really really like Wake and Winston Salem. But that tuition tho
Implying that WakeMed is busier than Duke Univ. Hosp. and UNC CH Hosp.?

I believe he's referring to areas of responsibility for all 3 hospitals, not how busy it is.
