Any thoughts? From my perspective, they're about the same except the money difference because I am OOS for Kentucky (and Wake is private).

Looks like WFU's CoA is ~$60,000/year. UK's CoA is ~$79,000/year.
So that makes $240,000 and $316,000. Subtracting scholarships that makes around $230,500 and $276,000. That's a difference of $45,500. If I exclude living expenses (my wife will be working), the difference is only $29,500. This number is probably even smaller since UK has their guaranteed tuition program. So, is going to UK worth the extra money?

Also, I try not look at ranks, but it may be meaningful here because according to US News, WFU is 22 in primary care while UK is unranked.

The cities and areas seem to be pretty similar so I have just focused on the school themselves, but if anyone knows something that I should know, please share!

DId you really love UK or something?? I vote wake forest.

Don't go to Kentucky. Don't go for medical school. Don't go to visit relatives. Just stay out of that state.

They steal shoes...presumably because they do not have them.

(I'm looking at you, redneck man from Kentucky who took my shoes at the beach during spring break 6 years ago 😡)

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go to Wake. Seems like a better school, plus North Carolina is awesome. Plus it sounds like its cheaper, win, win, win!

I'd go Wake. Don't do it by rankings, though. Those are crap, and the primary care rankings are particularly useless.

Since you brought that up, why is that? Does US News explain how they rank? Like I said, I don't put too much into the rankings (that's why I didn't expound about them in my first post), but I reasoned that surely there is something to be said of the difference between a top 25 school and an unranked school. But maybe not.

UKentucky is a great med school. i have many friends that attend the school and it's a great med school, emphasizing primary care. the rotations have state-of-the art new facilities

No kidding, it seems like I'm always hearing how dangerous that kentucky beach is

Turns out the prices of WFU and UK are much more comparable than I thought. In the past, I have been using just the first year CoA and multiplied it by four (because the cost difference was significant enough before the scholarship that these little numbers didn't matter). Now, I'm using the specific numbers for each year, including WFU tuition increases, and considering UK's tuition guarantee, and now the prices are less than $5,000 apart! The money no longer makes a difference now...

I'm torn because UK is closer to home and is building a new hospital that I can rotate through, while Wake Forest has a better area (from what I've heard). Plus, it's Wake Forest! I'm thinking about making a drive to Lexington so I can poke around the medical school again.

Haha, just when you thought the decision was going to be easier! What is your wife leaning towards? Where could she get a higher paying job?

Why is the new hospital at Kentucky weighing so heavily in your decision?

wake

Yes the new facilities in lexington could be sweet BUT the logistics of a major change like that always has some minor (or major) hicups that could interfere with your education (even if only a small amount).

Besides, wake's facilities are great for their age, and they aren't even that old AND they utilize an incredible amount of technology making them a very tech savvy school.

Wake, a bit cheaper, still great facilities, and a better all around reputation.

I don't think it will matter job-wise, and I'm still leaning towards Wake I think. And the new hospital isn't that big of a deal, just worth mentioning. 🙂

Gotcha! 🙂

When I've talked to people at UK it seems that a lot of them make the decision to go there based on their schedule. Is the Wake forest schedule comparable to UK's or are they completely different? I'm from Lex, and know nothing about wake forest😀

If you like bluegrass music and edentia, go to Kentucky.
If you like any other genre of music and women with teeth, go to WF.

"So this is my favorite song
Now sing along when the DJ throws it on
And if I leave here tonight and I fall asleep
And wake up, hopefully she got some teeth."
-Obie Trice, Got Some Teeth

Just as a heads up! Schools now have access to information about what other schools you are currently accepted to. So, they now know you are trying to decide, lol

I thought the same thing, then realized he met someone FROM kentucky at a beach. Interesting...
