Hey guys,

I got an invite off the wait list at UT Memphis today but unfortunately I also have Wake Forest that day. I'd rather be in North Carolina for personal reasons, but is UT Memphis a significantly better program? I don't know which one to turn down and ANY advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Wake Forest is great...Over 200 cataract cases during residency, a comprehensive resident clinic 5 days a week (this is key), all sub-specialties well-represented, a fair (but busy) call schedule, and the benefit of living in Winston-Salem in one of the most beautiful states in the nation. As far as fellowships are concerned, over the last couple of years, residents have matched at Casey, Eye Consultants of Atlanta (cornea), Barnes, Jules-Stein, and Bascom-Palmer (retina). A fair number go into comprehensive ophthalmology (a testatment to their confidence coming out of residency). The chairman and residency program director are very approachable and interested in constantly improving resident education.

From my memory of both 6 years ago. I'd say they are similar in strength.
