Hey guys,

I wanted to find out what your thoughts are on these three schools. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,

I would go to Wake Forest personally, unfortunately I don't have this choice.

Go to Wake Forest. It's higher ranked...and I'm not on the waitlist there. 😉

But I agree with Vizsla, that if you are in-state VCU would probably be the best deal.

Don't know much about VCU, but Wake (smaller, rural setting) and GW (big city, new hospital) seem different enough that it would help you in your decision.

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate it. I just wanted to let you guys know that I am actually a NY resident, so I will be out of state for VCU. Any other advice is welcome.

Go with wake if you are out of state at all of them. It will be the cheapest tuition and living and its better ranked and more research.

I think it's pretty foolish to suggest that you should attend any of these schools (Wake in this case) because it's higher ranked. Again, I don't know much about VCU, but any difference in residencies that you would get coming from GW or Wake is going to be minimal to non-existant. For those who referenced research opportunities at Wake, GW is 20 minutes from the NIH. You could easily do work there over summers, etc.

In this case I'd definitely choose based on location/cost, not because Wake is ranked marginally higher than others by US News.

which school has the best placement for the residency that you want to pursue?

gw doesnt place too many people into surg or ultra competitive fields like neurosurg (1 this yr), derm (0), plastics (0)... of course this could reflect the interests of the graduating class. I dont really know about VCU or Wake

I'd go to Wake. I don't know why.

My vote is for Wake. I really like the school and was pretty crushed that they didn't interview me. 🙁

what did you decide as the decision needs to be made soon! let us all know!

Studied that list carefully, eh? It's true that GW is known for turning out mostly good ol' fashioned run of the mill primary care docs - we're people lovers. 🙂
I have a few friends threatening to go for neurosurgery in my class though, we'll see how far they get.

Don't be sad - everything happens for a reason and the path you're on now is exactly the one you're supposed to be on!
