Has anyone ever worked in a wal-mart pharmacy and can tell me what it's like? I've been searching for pharmacy jobs for a couple of months, and finally a spot as a pharmacy clerk might be open and I'm just wondering what to expect if I work there.

REAL busy, but youll get experience fast because of that. I was there when their $4-prescription started. It was Crazy since the number of customers tripled but they didnt want to hire more pharmacists nor techs... So be expect to be ripped off! But who cares, we're just be there for a while and then move on to pharm school!

Expect to take a little customer critism, because sometimes their most direct line of attack is the pharmacy clerk who can't really do anything about the medicine being ready. Just try not to take anything personally. But you will gain a lot of experience, fast! I started out as a clerk, worked only as a clerk for about 3 weeks and then was pulled back to be a tech. Just beware, Wal-mart is uber-cheap. But just try to soak up as much info as you can because it will come at you fast.

If it's one of the stores that has the remodeled pharmacy with the very open front, be prepared to answer about 100 questions a day along the lines of "Where is the diapers? Kitty litter? garden section? bathroom?" I shadowed a Wal-mart pharmacist a couple of years ago, and I was amazed at how often they were interrupted with this. It's something all pharmacists have to deal with, but it was noticeably worse than at my CVS. And, it seemed to me like people felt more free to yell questions at the pharmacy staff from the aisle because the store is so much louder in general than a drugstore is.

I call what rxlynn described, The TJ Maxx dump-bin effect. Where when things are open, congested, and not layed out in an orderly fashion, then people will respond respectively. My friend and I used to laugh about it at our first job, which of course was at a TJ Maxx. Its like comparing a line in a library or bank to a line at Sea World or Disneyland.
