I've read several posts on here saying that Wal-Mart doesn't care about pharmacy, doesn't care about health-care, etc., etc. I was JUST hired there as a technician (haven't even had my first day on the job yet), and I was just wondering if anyone could expand or explain what you mean?

How are they any different from any of the other big-chain retailers (or even chain supermarkets) with pharmacies? Is it based solely on the (troubling) reports of employee benefits and sweat shop production (two of the most recent things I've seen posted here)? Or are there other reasons, specific to the pharmacy, of why they "don't care"?

I know that Wal-Mart is far from perfect, I'm just trying to tease out what is making them worse than any other retail environment...

They are not any different than other retail chains. One noticeable difference is pay. You will likly be under paid as a technician compared to others in your town. Oh, you will of course be under staffed over worked ect.

I'm assuming you are talking about my anti-walmart posts...I will post more later tonight or tomorrow when I get off of work

Caverject - No, I wasn't referring to you specifically - I've seen several general posts that were starting to concern me a little.

One difference between them and the pharmacy chains is that CVS or Walgreens makes the majority of their money off the pharmacy dept - around 60 - 70%. For Wal-mart or Target, pharmacy is a much smaller slice of the overall pie, so it may not be perceived as being any more important than any other dept. by upper management. Also, in the chain drug stores your upper management (or at least part of your management chain) is more likely to have been a pharmacist at some point.
