Looking for a good interventional pain atlas.
Any opinions regarding Waldman's Atlas of Interventional Pain Management (2003) versus Rathmell's Image-Guided Intervention in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management atlas (2005)?
The Waldman atlas is twice as expensive on amazon ($225 vs $104.50) but 3 times as many pages.
I am in a heavily interventional program so if the extra money is worth it I will certainly spend it.
Your advice is much appreciated!!

if I had to choose one, I'd go with waldman. It is still not great...the images are not very good, and the techniques can be out of date, but it has just about every procedure in there.

Rathmell's book is good for the illustrations, which are outstanding. The fluoro images in rahtmell are very poor quality (surprisingly poor). So poor that in many cases they need to make an illustation on top of the fluoro image so you can see details. I can't belive they published this book the fluoro images are so poor!

There really is no one best book. The one exception is the ISIS guidelines which has excellent images and technique write ups for the spine procedures it covers.

Slipman and Derby have a book coming out this summer that could be outstanding. Also, ASIPP has a technique book coming out which could be great.

Really, you should just buy all of them. The write ups and techniques are so disparate that you need to gestalt them all together to what you think is best.

Ie. in Fenton: for a snrb, you SHOULD try to elicite a parasthesia
in ISIS: for snrb, you should NEVER try to elicit a parasthesia

Also dont forget Renfrew's technique book and spine atlas. I especially like the spine imaging atlas.

Just my two cents...

If you can wait on the Waldman text, a new edition is coming out in a couple of months...

Waldman's 2 volume text book has a lot of info, but pictures suck. It has a lot of drawings that are worthless. I shouldn't have bought it.
