I submitted my application for a pharmacist positon with Walgreens. It is currently under review and has been for almost a month now. How long does it take for a response? I'm going to call them tomorrow but is there something I should have done? Is there an assessment to take that is similar to CVS? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Just tell them you are so passionate about pharmacy and you are here 100% for the patients and are ok with $30 an hour- guarantee you’ll get this job or anywhere else you apply.

Depending on the person, you probably weren't chosen for an interview and they decided not to call those people.

Some of these openings get a ton of applications. If enough from the company were interested, I doubt they'd go outside the company.

yeah i can honestly say these postings on indeed, glassdoor...etc dont work out. you should try EVERY avenue however....dont give up. but its total BS on these sites.....the jobs are long gone or were never there.

Why would you want to burn yourself out and get mistreated? I recently quit WAGs and it was the best decision. I am so happy now in my new job. To answer your original question, a lot of those postings are not real openings. I know when I quit my position they immediately posted my position online to meet legal and company policy requirements. The DM had about 10 floaters lined up for my open position so he was not even interested in new hire.

I agree with others, most of these posted positions are just to meet legal requirements and are shadow positions. No substance.

I would rather wash cars for 10 bucks an hour than be a pharmacist, No joke. And i have been doing this since 97 as a tech and 2012 as a Rph. I loved it, was passionate, but it's over.

Use your network. Reach out to your friends/classmates that have jobs already and see if their company is hiring or know of real openings.

Not all positions are fake however if you see a location in a highly desirable area, you won't be getting a call for that opening. There will be too much interest from within the company.

You need someone who already works with the company who can vouch for you when there is a legitimate opening.

I know it's been said before but you have to know the right people and it's all about timing. I don't apply online because it is a waste of time. I personally contact the district manager or recruiter by researching and finding their direct contact info. Never apply around summer time and all the new grad are applying. Applying around December-March during busy Flu season and you will have much better change of landing a job.

At grocery chains, you are considered a separate department. No micromanagement since you are your own department, just like the deli, meat, produce department. You the pharmacist is responsible for your own pharmacy department. The pharmacist is in charged and does not have to answer to non-pharmacist. Customers seem to be nicer and more patient in grocery chain. The biggest difference is the pharmacy department is not the main driver of profit. It is mainly there for convenience and to draw in customers to purchase groceries. Having work for WAGs, my new job is at least 5 times better in terms of working condition, culture and overall respect and treatment of pharmacist. There's no way I will go back to WAGS even if they pay me $100/hr. The kind of disrespect and indignity was unacceptable.

Honestly... All it takes is one real one. I applied to over 150 jobs before I found one (at the high end of part time) & then found a full time position at one of the very last places I applied to before I started the part time job, over two months after it was posted/I applied. Just keep churning out those apps and networking as much as possible. For what it's worth I knew no one at my job, I got in without a single connection (no alumni, no mutual friends, nothing), but I got really lucky. I applied randomly on Indeed, so it's not all hopeless, just mostly.

Edit: also, not in a place I'd consider desirable but it's a metro area

Got my position by hitting every independent with 30 miles in person. Try to talk to the owner. Say you'll be willing to just fill in as a temp at the present time. Just get a foot in the door. As for chains, Find out who the Dm is and give them a call. Helps if you know a rph in the chain.

I wouldn't say the posting are fake since I was hired off of those postings at my current job. Although I work at an independent.

To ease your mind, I would say go to WAG or CVS hiring websites and apply directly with them. That's how I was initially hired at Target/CVS. I applied on a Monday, had a phone interview that Wednesday and was hired on Friday. I kind of got lucky though since they needed someone right away.

Honestly the only way in my area I have seen anyone hired for Walgreens is as a float position. I was hired the same way worked there for a year as a float before leaving for a grocery chain. Being hired in pharmacy is basically completely based on who you know. I say this as my rotation year I had about 3 of my rotation sites that wanted to hire me but they didn't have a position. Then one of them was with one of my professors that worked at Walgreens and she gave me the name of a District Manager who I reached out to and after a phone interview I was hired the next day as a float. I worked as a float for a year and all the other people in my class with Walgreens jobs also initially hired as floats. My newest job was back with the chain I worked with all through pharmacy school. I only learned about it because my old manager called me and told me my hometown was hiring and if I was interested they would write me a recommendation. So if you are struggling to find a position best thing would be to reach out to contacts: professors, bosses, and fellow students and just see what they tell you. Maybe that is just in my area but my world of pharmacy it has always been who you know.

I'm in the process of doing this now. Had a stack of resumes, cover letters, and list of references printed along with a business card. I also started my own pharmacy consulting PLLC to make it easier to be hired as a contract employee with independents.
