Does anyone understand the issue with frozen sick days. I am being told I should cash out my frozen vacation days that I have with the new offer that walgreens is making (cash out at 70%). Basically store manager is saying cash out or lose it.

I talked to HR about this. If you want your money now then you can cash out your frozen pto (only those that are shown as frozen in people central) for 70% of value. If you can wait til end of 2019 then any remaining frozen pto will be cashed out at 100% on your first check in 2020. This little caveat they did not emphasize in the letter, since they're hoping people would jump at this 70% deal (very sneaky).

Also spoke to my front end manager and he's all like "sign up for it!" I think they're trying to push people to do this to save money and etch out that 1.5bln in cuts that pessina wants to do.

Its likely whoever you spoke with at HR was misinformed. There is no such thing as frozen PTO. There is PTO, frozen vacation, and frozen sick. PTO will be cashed out at 100% on first check of 2020 for those who are averaging <30 hours. Frozen vacation will not be touched. 70% seems like a ripoff, but if you plan to stay with the company longterm and just let it sit, vs cash it out now and invest that money, it might make sense for some to do.

Yup thank you for the correction; I meant frozen vacation time. However, for ppl averaging < 30 hrs per 12 week, HR said that BOTH frozen vacation time AND unused PTO will be cashed out for 100% in jan 2020 if you can wait til end of 2019. So i think whoever you spoke to about FVB being untouched is misinformed.

frozen vacation for <30 hrs will be cashed out, that is in the letter from walgreens. >30 hr will not be cashed out, says in letter we keep it
 
What if I work >40 h/week and have > 40 hours of PTO after April 2020?
Last I heard, I'm gonna lose anything > 40 hours of PTO.
Is this still the case?
 
You can only carry 40 hours PTO after Dec 31, 2019. You earn the hours in 12 months but have 15 months to use

Right. My understanding is that you'll lose anything > 40 hours of PTO (no pay out).
But now that I'm hearing frozen vacation time can be paid out, I'm wondering if any excess PTO can be paid out too.

Nice that you guys get PTO.

No. PTO can't be paid out (unless you leave company). Take the PTO now. Don't cash in frozen vacation. Why would you want to lose 30%?
 
I have a private practice. My own practice. When I don't work, I don't get paid. No PTO or sick time.

Nice try. In the balance you are still better off.

I am a pharmacist who has worked with physicians who worked in private practice. I asked them about this and one gave me the same response. But two of them had ranches and three of the four were wealthy. The one with an unsuccessful private practice had to work later in life. I don;t think any of them were worried about $500.

Ok. I don't understand how they can just take away something we earned (PTO) if it's not used by April 2020.
The good (and sad) part is I don't have much PTO to use up and don't have any frozen vac.

Every company I have ever worked for had that policy. Use it or lose it. I never understood either. If you are fired they are required by law to pay it out (what you have accrued up to your termination date) but they can let it expire if you don't use it in time. Hardly seems fair.

I don't have it will be able to get those things. Like some of you, I am young and in alot of debt.
