Hey everyone!

I currently work at walgreens as a Pharmacy Intern floater, and I am having some trouble figuring out some of the insurance codes (I was never provided training). I picked up everything else but insurance billing is one of my downfalls. I know they vary among states but if anyone can help me compose a list with various popular codes. Also, is there a way we can pull them up on storenet? If so how would I be able to do that?

Also, which insurance cards do we add the letters to and which ones do we not include them?

Thank you!

I feel ya. I just started as a Wags. Pharm Intern too! It's stressful, but nothing a little bit more experience can't solve.
First off, I would go to your Store Manager/Pharm manager and ask them to print you out a list of all the quick/short codes off of StoreNet (6666 for LSA's, 4444 for Third Party PA, etc.)
Also, if you are having trouble actually entering the information:
Suggestions:
1. Use the BIN and PCN numbers before you do anything
2. Scan the card, and figure it out
3. Ask the pharmacist if it isn't too busy
4. If all else fails, call the insurance company

Hope this helps! I understand that WAGS gets really busy sometimes and it get's really stressful, but hopefully with this knowledge everything will click.

WAG RxM here.

There's no way to pull them up from StoreNet, especially when the plan ID can vary from state to state, county to county, etc. It just takes time to memorize some popular plans and re-learn them every year...

As PrincessPristiq18 said, you wanna stick with BIN and PCN before you do anything.

-> Keep in mind, when searching under the Plan ID, our dumb system will only match the "BIN" number so even if you type the correct PCN, the system may still give you a Plan ID with a different PCN....so keep trying until you find the plan ID with the correct RxBIN AND RxPCN

-> As far as when to add "00" or "001" or "01" at the end of ID number, it just gonna be trial and error. You will get better as you go and begin to memorize the special requirements for entering each plan.

Good luck surviving January 🙂

Once you figure out what plan ID it goes under and you're not sure if you need the group or an 01 or not, go to third party inquiry (f12) and type in the Plan ID and some useful info will pop up and essentially tell you what you need to put in.

The system always brings up the correct plan if you enter bin and pcn

wagrxm2000,
Whenever I enter RxBIN, RxPCN and do plan search, there are usually several Plan IDs I can choose from. Some of those will end up with a different PCN when I select them.

Do you only get ONE plan ID when you enter the RxBin & RxPCN?

Normally, I choose the first one when whole bunch of lists show up. And, the first one always correct to me. 😛

Yeah, the 00, or 001, or 01... are based on your experience. Trial and error.
