Walgreens phone interview

I am a recent graduate and have a phone interview today in the evening. I have applied to majority of the retail pharmacies but walgreens was the only one who replied. Now I am very nervous about the interview. Does anyone has been through the same situation? I really wanna know what are the questions to be expected and the duration of the interview? And any other advices are also appreciated.

My phone interview with Walgreens lasted 80 minutes (much longer than I expected-- never interned with them or anything). The majority of the interview consisted of me sharing my career goals, thoughts on the future development of the pharmacy profession and healthcare reform, etc. I would definitely DEFINITELY review this document (http://news.walgreens.com/images/20007/WALGREENS_2011_AR.pdf). Don't memorize, just read and be able to discuss your thoughts on their new concept stores, etc.

My interview did result in an offer, which I subsequently accepted. However, I've just been contacted by Walgreens in another, more preferable area. To be more clear, I have already accepted an offer in City A, which ain't a bad area at ALL, but I may prefer to be closer to family in City B, whose district supervisor just contacted me for an interview. Anyone have any experience in this situation? Is there any way I can parlay this into another offer... with the same company?

Apparently they didn't call yesterday instead the DM emailed me saying her intern will call today for the interview with some scenario questions and how to handle them. She even said that it wil take few weeks to make a decision. I just wanted to thank you for the link and I will definitely go through it.

Pkpharma I am really sad to hear that Walgreens is your only choice for prospect interviews. Pharmacists at Walgreens have become mere cashiers, running from the front register to the drive thru every other minute. Very risky enviroment among so many distractions that can lead to a fatal medication error. POWER has never worked as they planned and they keep pushing for new projects every week trying to squeez you for more results without giving you the help you need. They want us to play doctors but still they keep us on a cash register dealing with infinite distractions and non-sense. If I were you I keep searching. Any other retailer would be better than W right now, where at least Pharmacist are still Pharmacist.

Not true. There is a company that's much worse than Walgreed, just read all the posts on the forum. At least at Walgreed your shifts are only 8 hours. At the company I work for, I play cashier a lot because we never have enough people working anyways.

Wait until you graduate and are the only one responsible of every single medication that goes out. You will have a better picture of what I am telling here. You got me all wrong, I see nothing wrong in helping with the register during rush hours. Just wait...

It is not about getting paid 50 dollars an hour to be a glorified cashier.When you have to do flu shots, in window , drive -thru, voice mails, filling, data review, product review, and so on, it gets really hectic and it is a matter of time before a fatal error is made. And also , they keep cutting tech hours. When you start practicing , you will face the reality and understand better how the wags retail environment can be challenging, and of course no matter how much experience you may have. The fact that your patients/customers will see you at the cash register ringing their toilet paper, milk, and so on.. does not help to make you look professional.

The customers don't care about you being a professional. They just want quick service to get out of the store. Do a solid and help your tech clear the line and then they can help you not kill someone. I've worked in stores that do 100 a day and stores that do 600 a day. The stores where the techs are overwhelmed because the pharmacist can't get off their high horse and answer the phone or ring out someone at the drive thru is the one that makes a mistake. Everyone on here acts like working in a retail store is the god damned end of the world. Just suck less and things will be fine.

I see you are pre-pharmacy. By the time you qualify the career of pharmacist will be well and truly dead. You don't need a PharmD to run a cash desk even if you do make $50 an hour. If wags and cvs get their way you will only need a diploma from a community college to check prescriptions.

I feel really sorry for the poor sods currently in pre-pharm and Rx school. They are really going to struggle and by the time the pre-pharmers qualify, even if they do get a job as a jumped up cashier they'll be getting $20 an hour ha ha ha ha ha.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Walgreens/CVS isn't going to pay you 50/hr to be a cashier...you're doing that on top of the other stuff: scanning scripts, data entry, verification, filling, product review, drive through, phone calls, flu shots, zostavax, pneumonia, blood pressure screenings.

Ever heard of POWER? Pretty much the pharmacist is just a cashier in that system. They don't want to admit it but Power has failed.

That is my impression as well, though my exposure is very limited. But if it were really a success, they would have kept rolling it out, right?

I work for Walgreens...and am very familiar with POWER. The pharmacists there are not at all like cashiers...they are responsible for script verifications, doses, and accuracy. Cashiers are not held to these liabilities. Please do not speak of stuff you don't understand.
