There is an opening in the district I'm looking to transfer to in their new specialty pharmacy.

Has anyone worked in one before or can tell me a little more about it. I know it's strictly specialty rx at this store. There's no store to shop in for OTC items and what not, no drive thru, etc.

Thank you!

They require a certain amount of years of pharmacy manager experience/waiting list of company pharmacists wanting a slot at a clinic, at least in the city where I lived. I did a wags mgmt rotation and toured multiple specialty clinics. A mix of traditional dispensing, simple compounding, and focusing on certain expensive/uncommon meds, according to the needs of the site.

Most people want the job for the hours (Mon-Fri 9-6). And most I went into did have otcs, snacks/drinks, etc., but no drive thru and seemingly more laid back/less volume. The downside is that many enterprising DMs seemed to enjoy finding random bitch work for the specialty pharmacists to do to pick up busier stores' slack.

It isn't as clinical/amazing as some people seem to think it is, but the slower pace and hours make it the best place to work if you're stuck on the big retail chains. It is honestly like a regular wags, but you trouble shoot/find coverage for hep meds, HIV, etc on top of the typical dispensing monkey stuff.

However, good luck getting a slot. You probably aren't getting one if you are a recent grad/not an RxM, unless you're sleeping with the area supervisor. But if you have an in/connection or mgmt experience, it def doesn't hurt to try and is better than a normal wags.

Thank you for the info!

Yah I was surprised when I saw the email come to my district because I figured they would have had a line of people they knew already wanted to work their from their own district.

Doesn't hurt to try though I suppose

The email is just customary...to appear unbiased...but there's probably a bunch of people waiting in line for it already. Of course...definitely try anyway...you never know.
