I don't know how many of you read the WSJ, but there was a great article about dentistry in yesterday's (1/23/07) 'Personal Journal' section titled "Poor Oral Health Is Linked To Deadly Pancreatic Cancer." It talked about how more and more health care professionals are recognizing the intimate relationship between the oral cavity and the rest of the body. Maybe this makes schools like Harvard, Columbia and UConn a step ahead of the game by integrating the medical/dental curriculum and training their dental graduates to be, as a previous SDNer said, "physician-dentists."

I think dentistry in general has been shifting more towards a medical paradigm. Most of the schools I have interviewed at talk about this shift.

As a reader of the WSJ 'Personal Journal', I was impressed with the article. Well written...important for dental education of the general public.... Glad you mentioned it. 👍
