Last night, on a whim, I applied for a single walmart position in my area. Today, I got a call/voicemail, wanting to set up a phone (interview) this upcoming week. Wasn't really expecting any immediate reply, if at all, but now that they did, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Walmart phone interviews. They said it would be mostly situational questions, but I'm curious if this means I made some kind of cut, or if it's like Safeway, where they interview you just to make sure you're alive :hungover:

Isn't walmart cutting staff rph hours? I won't jump unless they guarantee you 40h/w in writing. I have seen bosses lied thru their teeth to tell them what they want to hear and fuk someone over (i.e, this person quit a full time LTC job to float retail for 1-3 days a week).

Most interviews are behavioral questions... 30 Behavioral Interview Questions You Should Be Ready to Answer

Look good, be nice, and ace the questions to land a job.

Well I am a WM manager and this could mean one of two things.

1) your being pre-screened with intentions on POSSIBLY hiring you

2) Since they HAVE to interview several people to keep things fair and "honest" (what a joke) you are part of that. They may already have a candidate picked out and your just going through motions.

hopefully its #1. but do be warned, wal mart is restructuring heavily and its almost as bad as CVS or Wags. Just a year or so more and it will be unbearable. Most staff spots are 56/hr per 2 weeks and roughly 50$ an hour. The 80 hour staffs are NOT budging, believe me, they know their days are numbered. The responsibility/workload has doubled nearly and help has been shredded to the bone. Because Wal mart uses Connexus, which is a beast of a system to process prescriptions. And because they have the most rigid of rules/standard operating procedures, it is a hard place to get things done, ya know? takes much longer/more help, to do say, 250 Rx's in a 12 hour day, than most other places. It's pretty ridiculous actually. You should know what your getting into. It's NOT the same wal-mart from even a year ago....

It can function as a pre-screen since you would be interviewed for the actual position later if you clear the first one. You will probably be asked to provide a mock consultation. Also it would not hurt mention something about how you set up immunization clinics in the past at CVS, if in fact you have done that (they will love that). WM is very big on expanded compared to CVS unless CVS now requires you to do 500 expanded a year now

For that market IIRC a few stores are close to 2k sold a week (I think Santa Maria and another one) but the metrics dashboard was just updated to exclude sales info and order performance from being viewed at the store level.

I keep reading people saying these positions are fake or they have to do interviews but already have people in mind for the position.

You guys ever stop and think that maybe the people that are already filling these positions are the best option? Why hire an unknown worker when you know how your current pharmacist that will get transferred there, already works?

Blow someone away in an interview and while you won't get the current spot, maybe, just maybe you'll be remembered for a future spot.

Who knows what these guys are up to anymore.....you can bet one thing is for sure though. If it saves money (at our expense) they will go with that option.

Beggars can't be choosers, can they? You grab the job with whatever salary/ hours you can get. There is always an opportunity to pick up shifts once you get your foot in.

This is true. It’s not a good long-term situation though, at least not in its current state. I’m ok giving it a few months to try and work itself out, but never hurts to test the waters. The one thing I was told about getting hired: it’s all about timing.

In northern California it is customary for all but the slowest of stores to have double coverage with 8 hour shifts so that's at least 96 RPH hours week. There typically is enough for staff to get 80/pay period

Only pharmacy managers get 80 hours at Walmart. You probably aren’t even gonna get 72 hrs position for staff.

If you are concerned about the hours then ask them ahead of time before the interview.

Wow really? Did not know things were getting that bad with Walmart. I always thought wally world and Target were kinda like retail-lite and retail oasises...it looks like they took a big chunk out of the Walgreens playbook on how to cut staff to bare bones. At least you guys still got the lunch break.

HR issues notwithstanding, Costco is the real oasis... maybe Sam's 'cause script volume is really low for many stores.

WM just looks relatively cush next to CVS

Question about lunches - does the staff eat in the pharmacy or is there an area somewhere for employees to eat lunch?

There is a break room for all employees.

I can see that happening at a 9 to 7 store.

TBH I would love to work fewer hours... it's getting more and more "grindy"

Anyone know from offer to start date, about how long does it take at Walmart? It seems Walmart has a lengthy license verification/background check process so far. Thanks.

So I did hear back last week, they said they’d be sending me offer letter soon. In the mean time, I faxed them the background check form this past Monday, and gave them my license info, so they could check for any citations, etc. I got back in touch with them today, they said they’re still waiting for the BOP credentialing to come through. Knowing CA, this could indeed take a while... meantime, still no letter

I know every pharmacy is different but due to WM's lenient attendance policy, bad actors abuse the **** out of it and then whine because they ran out of PTO to abuse. Like literally leaving mid-shift because they feel like it then use protected PTO to cover their bull**** hooky.

WM is soft as hell if you have soft as hell HR and the previous manager didn't keep these numbnuts in check. I kid you not. There are people on LOA at WM who have run out of FMLA and whatever California protections are left. What a joke. Hopefully you will not run into these bad techs at WM if you jump ship

The grass is not always greener~

I did this and got offered an 80hr position. It can be done. Compared to my previous employer, I still don’t know what all the crying is about, I get double the tech help and overlap for the same volume. Be happy you have a job, own your results and move on. There’s no such thing as perfection.

WM is probably going to come down hard on pharmacists who do not document opioid stewardship correctly and "I'm a floater" will not be a valid excuse.

Mock consultation? Jesus
