Has anyone recently interview with Walmart for their summer internship program? If so, can you remember any of the questions or give me any advice? Thanks
My interview with them had only a few questions. These are the ones I remember. I will italicize my recommended answers.
Why Pharmacy?
I can't bring myself to give a recommendation, just say whatever got you into pharmacy school.
Why Walmart?
Walmart is a very successful company. They have demonstrated a strong commitment to their patients (work something positive about $4 generic in here, such as "the four dollar generic plan makes prescriptions affordable for so many patients with and without prescription benefits."). Also the stability of such a strong company appeals to me (work something in about how you want to grow within a successful company/contribute to said success).
What would you do if you overheard a tech recommending OTC products?
Take the tech aside and thank them for trying to help the customer. It's important to remember that most people want to do a good job and in this case the tech was simply overzealous in trying to help the customer. That kind of attitude should be recognize and rewarded. Remind them that all medication questions must be directed to the pharmacist. Work the word "roles" into the answer, as in "however, it is the role of the pharmacist to council on medication question".
What would you do if someone came up to the counter as you were rolling down the gate?
This is a soft ball question. "I would help every customer to the best of my ability, the fact that they are approaching just as I am closing does not change anything. I would help the customer however I could. blah, blah, blah"
What would you do if you did not have enough medication to fill a prescription?
Another softball. There are so many options here. Partial fill, call nearby stores, order for next day, etc. The important thing is to remember to keep the customer first, as in "I would ask the customer would they prefer me to give them a partial fill and have them comeback, or call a nearby store to check availability or perhaps return tomorrow and I would make sure to have it in stock for you then." Just remember they are not looking for technical proficiency they are looking for a service attitude.
Most of the these questions you will get at any interview and will pretty much always be of the same variety, prepare some good stories about yourself in advance (shows leadership, takes initiative, good communication/people skills, etc.) and work them into the interview. I also recommend that you smile and make jokes during the interview (a small number will do, I don't mean try to be a comedian). Of course this depends on your personality, but I find humor really heps break the ice and build a re pore with the interviewer. I highly recommend trying to be comfortable during the interview, IMO it goes a long way.
