Back in opto school, we were snobs about becoming a "doc in a box". Flash forward a few years and we were just hoping to pick up a few days there doing fill in there. Every situation is different. Some offices are great , and others a toxic nightmare. I worked at a Sears about 20 years ago. We had a minimum income agreement (if I made less than $X/ week, they would make up the difference) so after about 6 months of making about $500/week, they owed me quite a bit. When they finally handed me the check, I quit . So yes, I would take the Walmart job.
People---Don't be judgemental about failing practices. You have no idea how tough it is. High startup costs, low reimbursement . Staffing issues. I had to pay unemployment for an Optician who quit after I caught him stealing. And this was after he made $10,000 unauthorized purchases . Which could not be returned. And broke the edger before the warranty expired (but never said anything). And he was the best Optician I ever had. I was just thankful he did not file workmanship comp for a non existent injury. Many local governments make it very difficult to stay afloat. Everyone assumes you are making a lot of money and put the screws to you. You can easily spend more in payroll to put an insurance claim through than you even get paid. Then, after years of hard work to get comfortable, a Walmart opens up down the street...
