I just applied to Walsh University are there any applicants who have also applied here? I am wondering about the accreditation status as they were just granted candidacy status for a MOT program. I am wondering how this will work because all schools have to be a DOT by 2020? Is there time for the to be accredited before that date?

I also applied to Walsh and have an interview for February 3rd.

This fall (2017) will be the first Cohort. Are you guys sure you want to spend $65,000 + on tuition on a school that is not accredited? :/ You wouldn't find out if they are accredited even until spring 2019..I would not advise you to go to this school at all. Sorry

if it sounds like a good program when I visit for the interview then I wouldn't have a problem attending. I mean someone has to be part of the first Cohort in any program, right?

I'm just not sure why you would attend an unaccredited program that is expensive rather than accredited programs. Care to explain please? There are over 100+ OT programs in America.

The Tuition is like 52000 for the entire program. I couldn't find many schools much less then that. Any suggestions for cheaper schools? I found most schools are 70000 plus

Where do you see $52,000? I'm assuming you live in Ohio or nearby since you are applying here? You have three state schools in your state. Most states you can become a resident after 1 year of living in their state, so if your not a resident of Ohio you still may qualify for instate tuition the second year.

My honest opinion- I think you are looking too much into the price. It is better to attend an accredited program that is $10-15,00- more expensive because you can actually take the license test to actually be an OT-NBCOT! What about if your program doesn't become accredited and you studied 1.5 years? Apply again and transfer to another school and spend another 2 years in school and $60,000-80,0000+ in tuition? Remember OT graduate schools do not usually transfer credits! Plus with an accredited program you will more knowledge and experienced therapists who will help you pass the exam easier and will have more access to fieldwork placements. Place explain your situation more if you can.

Did you apply to other programs? Did you get accepted into anyway else? I want to see if I can help in any way 🙂

I applied to Walsh since it is a new program- that was what caught my interest. I heard many people who are the first cohort loved it (at different schools obviously) because they said they felt like the school/professors were listening to their concerns and thoughts on the program. I have never heard anything bad about any of their programs or the school in general. That being said since they have been granted candidacy for the program, they have passed the first step to becoming accredited. All the programs that are already accredited have obviously gone through this process, but in order to become accredited they have to have students who are willing to give their program a chance. If no one is willing to attend Walsh or any other program that is in the process of being accredited then the program will ultimately fail.

I also was reading up on the accreditation process and its a slim chance that once a program is granted candidacy that it will not become accredited, just because it is such a process to even get granted candidacy. Yes there is a chance that it could fail, but I read that some programs will set up arrangements with other schools that if their program fails then the students who were in the program can transfer to the other school along with their credits. Obviously I am going to ask more questions on Friday, but if a school has passed the first step to becoming accredited then I wouldn't mind giving the program a chance. I just look at it in a positive way I guess.

I applied to other programs and have an interview next week at Findlay but I have not heard back from anywhere else yet.

I've looked at 5 schools websites and they all said they don't accept transfer graduate credit for OT. How much is Findlay going to cost? I would not encourage Walsh unless you can't get anywhere else. I may even wait a year and then go the next year at Walsh if I can't get in anywhere else this year. True someone has to be the first class, but that doesn't have to be you.

OT programs might not accept transfer credits from individual students, but some schools who are in the accreditation process set up arrangements with other programs so that if they do not become accredited their students can transfer to whatever school the arrangement is with without an issue. I do not know how much Findlay will cost. I have not looked at costs of programs yet, I will do that once I hear back from more schools. I personally am not worried about the fact that Walsh is a new program and in the process of becoming accredited. Any program can lose their accreditation at anytime. Plus even if you wait till next year to apply to Walsh, they still wouldn't be fully accredited yet.

Again I still would not recommend a program that isn't accredited and in its first year. There are over 130+ other schools in our country that offer it. It's too risky and costly and time consuming. Imagine if you can't take the license test after 2 years of hard work??
If you can get into Walsh you will be able to get in somewhere else.

No it's $10,125 per semester just for tuition and it's 6 semesters. So tuition would be around $61,000 with their fees included. So average tuition and fee's, but its not accredited so be careful...

I did my calculated graduate cost per credit hour (tuition only and not including fees). Yes the sight does say 10,125 per semester. So your calculation is probably closer. I will be getting financial information from the school to get a closer number for the tuition.

Where do you see they charge OT per credit hour? They charge per semester for OT and PT.

Anyone apply to Walsh this year hear anything back yet?? I interviewed in December but was just wondering when we should hear by?

I interviewed in December as well. They told us that day that we would hear back either before the holidays or by February. I still have not heard anything back. I've emailed Ms. Dice several times to check in on the decision process but I have not heard back. The anticipation is killing me. If anyone hears back, please let me know.

Ok so I emailed Ms. Dice again today and I actually received a response. They have decided to wait until after the last round of interviews is over on the 9th. Then the committee will meet and send out decisions. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer!!
