Hi! Looking for any help crafting a good school list. Currently on a few waitlists but have to prep to be a stronger reapplicant
1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
- cGPA 3.60 and sGPA 3.39
2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts.
- 499 (122/125/124/128) April 2024
- 507 (123/130/127/127) April 2025
3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
New Jersey
4. Ethnicity and/or race
South Asian (Indian)
5. Undergraduate institution or category
Northeastern University
6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
Medical Assistant at Urological Surgery/Men's Health clinics - 1000 hours (paid)
7. Research experience and productivity
- Postbac Research fellow at a microbial genetics lab - 2200 hours
- Clinical research assistant studying the psychiatric health of pregnant people as a volunteer - 200 hours
- Sustainability research and creation of a documentary and publication on including different mediums in sustainability education - 1000 hours
8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
Primary care, urological surgery, trying to get more currently!
9. Non-clinical volunteering
- Activist group organizer - co-founded an organization dedicated to community education and solidarity - 500 Hours
- Community work - spend time helping at soup kitchens or mutual aid distributions for community orgs in the Boston area - 50 hours
10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
- Resident assistant - primarily supervised a floor of 50 residents and helped manage two buildings of about 200 students - 500 hours
- founder of acapella team and member/music director of another acapella team - 1000 hours
- radio show host - 200 hours
- President/communications chair of global health organization - 1000 hours
- president of politics, philosophy, economics group - 75 hours
- Founder of org geared towards making sustainability education more accessible
- Teaching Assistant for multiple courses, Tutor for Student Athletes, and Mentoring Freshmen students - 1000 hours
11. Relevant honors or awards
- publication about incorporating sustainability into higher education
- 2 publications in progress from current lab!
12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
- double majored in biology and philosophy so big focus on equity work and collaborating across disciplines !
- considering retaking MCAT as I have never been able to study full-time but might be able to soon
Thanks in advance 🙂

First, I need a school list. You had interviews so it may not immediately be your MCAT. Remember most schools average scores for screening.

Second, I need to see how your advocacy could address service orientation. I don't think it does but you got a couple of interviews though you had low service (which may warrant more attention). With the climate clamping down on student advocacy in higher education, are you just unlucky? What were your responsibilities?

Hi thank you for the advice!
I applied with my initial lower score as I only recently got the 507 score. I described that a lot of the clubs I was a part of, like the global health organization, were service oriented where I helped forge and maintain relationships with community organizations and would regularly volunteer there. I also forgot to update the hours for the community volunteer opportunity and also have more projected hours for that so I definitely have more than 50.
I also tried to water down my advocacy work and am unfortunately not including much of what I did to be safe. What I did say is that I helped organize events with speakers and organizations to raise awareness in the community and include involvement opportunities like voter registration, service opportunities at local food banks, etc.
As for MD schools I am considering the following:
- RWJ MS
- NJMS
- Cooper Medical school
- Hackensack
- Wayne Med
- Rosalind Franklin
- Nova MD
- Penn state
- Temple
- Drexel
- George Washington
- UPitt 5 year PSTP
- CCLCM 5 year

I would be surprised if you did not receive an acceptance from one of those schools in the next month.
I did withdraw from OCOM due to high cost of attendance and other reasons an am considering withdrawing from LECOM due to concerns about lack of pass/fail and overall academic environment. I guess I wanted to see if reapplying would allow me to get a program with a better cost or research opportunities as I am really enjoying my research role right now but also don't want to be unrealistic about my chances if that makes sense

If you reapply you will be unable to apply to those 4 schools. They would not consider you again after you withdrew from the waitlist or turned down an acceptance.

Yes I think I did not look deep enough into schools when I applied so I should have just avoided applying to those in the first place. Since waitlist timings vary a lot - i can hear from une up to 2 weeks into classes which worries me - I was getting everything set up for reapplications so I don't hurt myself in case I don't get off. If I don't get off the waitlist from a certain school, I could still apply there for next cycle right?

Yes, you can apply to a school if you are not accepted off the waitlist.

Okay thank you! I just don't want to wait too long and ruin my chances on applying in this coming cycle if I need it. If you have any thoughts on this school list though I would love some guidance as I am unsure if I am being unrealistic in applying to these MDs:
- RWJ MS
- NJMS
- Cooper Medical school
- Hackensack
- Wayne Med
- Rosalind Franklin
- Geisinger
- Penn state
- Temple

Pitt and CCLCM are unrealistic with a MCAT of 507. You could add Belmont, Alice Walton, Roseman. Also apply broadly to DO schools and consider these:
ROWANCOM
NYITCOM
Touro-NY
PCOM
WVSOM
CUSOM
KCU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
DMU-COM
CCOM
AZCOM
TUNCOM
ACOM
UP-KYCOM
