This past cycle I applied to 5 schools and was waitlisted at my state school, I really want to attend my state school so that is my hope for this upcoming cycle. I met with admissions after being waitlisted and I was told my app was strong and I interviewed really well so I'm not quite sure what went wrong but I'd love to improve. I felt my app was really strong last year but I barely got any interviews so I'm a little discouraged now and would like to know if my odds are looking better this year.

Overall GPA: 3.72
Science GPA: ~3.75
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: ~3.5 (would be higher if I include all my neuro classes which is why my regular sGPA is better)

Shadowing Experience: ~330, mostly general but about 20-25 hours ortho
Volunteering Experience: will be around 220-250 by time of application, volunteered long-term with red cross blood drives, memory care home, free dental clinics, and a few miscellaneous ones through clubs like soup kitchen. I have also started volunteering as an ESL instructor
Employment: by time of application will have 250 hours of work as an orthodontic assistant, which I've just started. I also worked two different TA positions throughout college amounting to probably 150 hours of work.
Research: ~100 hours of research, I did biology survey research through a scholarship I received freshman year and continued to work until senior year. worked on a publication but was not published with my team before we all graduated
Other Extracurriculars: around 800 hours of extracurriculars I was very involved all four years. For leadership roles: served as program director for my school's radio station while also hosting three weekly shows year round, president of my pre-dental society in my senior year, executive board member of the school's french club. Outside of leadership I was also a member of LASO, musician's network, brain exercise initiative, student neuro association, among others
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? I attended impressions day at DCG twice, people aren't allowed to go more than two times so I didn't go this year.
Relevant Honors or Awards: Just graduated with Highest Honors in december, my school doesn't do the latin rankings. I also had dean's list and faculty honors on my previous application.
LOR type and strength: Dentist LOR from dentist I've shadowed for around two years now, might ask her to rewrite it from last year to strengthen it. Two professor letters, one from my research leader who was also my bio professor, and one from my neuro prof for whom I TA'd for two semester. Last year I also had one from my computer science prof who I TA'd for for years but I'll be replacing it with one from my current employer who's an ortho.
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: Definitely have an upward trend as I got two Cs freshman year and then some Bs my sophomore year but received all As in my last 5 semesters. I also have a W on my transcript from early sophomore year which I explained on my app last year as I was just trying to takeway too many classes at once and it would have not been sustainable to take them all and still do well.
