I have interviewed people who tanked a first post-bac or MS program, so yes, it's doable. However, it still will raise eyebrows. You will need to craft your story as to how this was a U-turn in your professional career, because sometimes the path to Medicine is revolutionary, not evolutionary.I received a bachelors in psychology with an overall 3.78 GPA and went on to pursue a masters in general psychology at another school. However, I eventually decided to pursue a career in medicine after just a year into the masters program and eventually withdrew from the masters program to focus on a medical career. Because I withdrew from the masters program too late into the semester, I received a failing grade for 2 of my classes, but got A’s in my other 4 grad classes, leaving me with a low graduate GPA.
My deep worry is that that this will hurt my chances of getting into a medical school.
Given my situation, do you think my graduate gpa will drastically affect my chances of going to medical school despite my decent undergrad gpa? And will the post bacc program help me in dealing with this setback? What do you suggest?
I believe I can do very well in a post bacc premedical program and study hard for the MCAT.
You should inquire if it might be possible to get a retroactive withdrawal at the previous program. I've heard that this is possible in some places.
Doing well in the post-bac and on MCAT should allay worries.
