Thank you for any advice for the 2028 application cycle.
  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
    • 3.92, 3.89 (3.96 graduate GPA)
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts.
    • Attempt 1: 500 (125,123,126,126)
    • Attempt 2: 508 (126,126,129,127)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
    • Current resident of SC, will be in VA at time of submission
  4. Ethnicity and/or race
    • Caucasian
  5. Undergraduate institution or category
    • Mid-major
I understand my MCAT is on the lower end for MD schools. I expect to hear some advice to apply to DO schools, but I am looking for advice on my chances for east coast MD schools.
Here is my current list:

Shots in the dark:
UVA
Duke
Yale
USF

Reaches:
MUSC
South Carolina (Greenville)
South Carolina (Columbia)
UGA
MCG
Emory
Wake Forest
Methodist
UCF
VCU
EVMS
Virginia Tech
Maryland
George Washington
Georgetown
Drexel
Temple
Kimmel
Quinnipiac
Vermont

Thank you for your time!

Welcome to the forums.

Tell us what advice you have received from your prehealth advisors on-campus. Did you grow up in SC or VA, or where? When did you earn your MHA (and how long since your undergraduate degree)? When were your science courses taken? Is your research project associated with your MHA?

I suspect your four reach schools are not feasible without a stronger argument for mission fit (and that would be a reach with a 508). UVA maybe if you were born/raised in Virginia, but I need a stronger argument for fit. I also think if you are not committed to medicine in South Carolina that the SC schools are off the board. UGA really favors applicants who are from Georgia or want to do more than just care for Atlanta-area patients (as would MCG). I could be wrong; have you registered for the AAMC Virtual Fair at the end of the month?

I no longer have a connection with campus prehealth advisors, so I haven't received any

BS May 2024
MS Dec 2025
Research associated with both degrees

Grew up in rural GA

Hsve not registered for the virtual fair but I will put it on my calendar!

Okay... that makes a difference. Let us know what feedback you get from the virtual fair. I would lean on your rural Georgia upbringing if that matters to you. Add Mercer if rural health is a real mission for you, especially when it comes to women/children's health.

As for staying around the DMV, ask the Virginia schools about your situation. VCU has an MHA program, so ask how your earned degree could be valued for an application there.

I suggest these schools with your stats:
MUSC
South Carolina (Greenville)
South Carolina (Columbia)
Wake Forest
Methodist
VCU
EVMS
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Kimmel
Quinnipiac
Vermont
Belmont
Alice Walton
BYU
Roseman
Rosalind Franklin
Oakland Beaumont
Medical College Wisconsin
Albany
Penn State
