Im not sure where to go with this upcoming application cycle (2024). I am a nontrad (USMC Infantry Vet) with a family so I have no preference over MD vs DO; also am not looking at specializing in anything outside of FM/EM.

Subjects with * are given additional context at the bottom

Residence: Virginia

MCAT: 502 (125/123/127/127)

GPA: 3.65 cGPA/ 4.0 sGPA *

IA: Academic probation (2015) *

Research: 1000 hours (ongoing) with 3 poster presentations and possible 1st author publication

Clinical experience: 3200 hours as medical assistant preceptor in busy inner-city UC

Volunteer (Clinical) experience: 300 hours level 1 trauma unit in the military, 150 hours ER tech

Volunteer (nonclinical) experience: 100 hours food pantry, 100 hours student veterans association, 50 hours bio/chem tutor

Military experience: 4 years in leadership positions within infantry platoons

Shadowing: 60 hours with gastroenterologist, FM, and ophthalmology

Honor societies/awards: Honor societies for my university pre-medical organization, national community college honor society, dean's lists

My first semester of college was extremely hard on me and my family, leading me to achieve a 0.365 GPA. This is also the reason behind my IA. After this, I got my affairs in order and joined the military. I really shined during my 4 years and achieved a lot for my rank and age, but ultimately a spinal cord injury retired me medically. After starting back up in college in 2020, I've maintained a 4.0/4.0 across both GPA metrics (115 credits) and am now in my senior year. For my MCAT, I'm not sure that I can prep and retake during January with the personal things that are going on in my life. If I can locate atleast 20-40 schools that would not screen me out, id apply with the 502.

I just need some help.

Thank you

First, thank you for your service to our nation, and I'm sorry about your disability.

I don't know if you calculated your application GPA's properly in your profile, but if you pulled off a 4.0 since you were discharged, I tip my hat to you. What does your prehealth advisor say?

As a Virginia resident and military applicant, VCOM and maybe WVSOM better call you. The MCAT may be a bit too low for EVMS and ETSU, but given where they are, they are very military-friendly (IMO).
