Hey everyone,

I'm a 2nd time reapplicant. Applied 3 years ago to strictly D.O schools. At that time, I had a 3.5 cGPA, 3.1sGPA, and 25 MCAT. Received 2 interviews, 1 waitlist, ended up with no acceptances.

So here I am, 3 years later trying it again. I went back to school, retook some upper level science courses (enrolled prior to DO schools removing grade replacement), and retook the MCAT. I almost can't believe that I scored so well on the MCAT. I'm an IL resident, ORM male.

Undergraduate cumulative GPA: 3.54 (160 credits)
- Most recent 42.00 credit hours GPA: 3.78

Undergraduate science GPA: 3.31 for M.D. (84 credits), 3.25 for D.O. (70 credits)
- Most recent 39.00 science credit hours GPA: 3.81

Medical College Admissions Test
- May, 2014: 25 (50th percentile)
- April, 2018: 512 (86th percentile, 32 on old scale)

I have north of 3 years full-time work experience in the medical field as a technician/scribe for an ophthalmologist.
I have 100+ hours of shadowing a family practice physician (D.O)., and 30+ hours shadowing a dermatologist (M.D.)
I have 300+ non-clinical volunteer hours (split between an out-patient pharmacy and my local parish, as well as cleaning up local beaches)

So, my question is... WAMC?

The DO schools include the following
CCOM, AZCOM, KCU, PCOM, NSU, Des Moines, Marian, Rocky Vista, Oklahoma

The MD schools (now since I have an MCAT to counterbalance my GPAs) include:
Loyola, Rosalind Franklin, Rush, UIC, and I'm not quite sure where else to apply.

Chances excellent for all DO. You know which ones I can't recommend.

Add Albany, NYMC and Drexel to the list

You could add these MD schools with your stats:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Albany
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
St. Louis
Creighton

Thanks for the suggestions! I've since done some research (purchased MSAR), and I came up with a number of other schools.

List #1 consists of private schools or in-state schools
1) Albany
2) California Northstate
3) Rosalind Franklin
4) Creighton
5) Drexel
6) Quinnipiac
7) Geisinger
8) George Washington
9) Georgetown
10) Temple
11) Loyola
12) New York Medical College
13) Nova Southeastern (M.D.)
14) Penn State
15) Rush
16) Seton Hall
17) St. Louis
18) Thomas Jefferson
19) Southern IL
20) Tulane
21) University of IL
22) Virginia Tech
23) Wake Forest
24) Western Michigan

List #2 are public schools which I am out of state for
1) Indiana
2) Medical College of Wisconsin
3) Michigan St. University
4) Oakland Beaumont
5) University of Vermont
6) University of Toledo
7) University of Iowa
8) University of Kansas
9) University of Nebraska
10) University of Wisconsin
11) Wayne St.
12) Wright St.

Now, I am wondering if any if these would be total wastes of time and money. My stats again are 512 (126/127/129/130), cGPA 3.5-3.6, and sGPA ~3.3-3.4 as an ORM IL resident.

And, am I missing any private schools or public schools I would have a chance as?

Medical College Wisconsin and Oakland Beaumont are not public schools so you can apply to them. Vermont accepts the majority of its class from non residents. Indiana and Wayne State are worth adding but the others have a strong instate preference.

MSAR lists Beaumont as public, but you're right on Medical college of Wisconsin

So do you recommend scrapping

MSU
TOLEDO
IOWA
KANSAS
NEBRASKA
WISCONSIN

?

Are you aware that Northstate has chosen to prevent their students from having access to federal loans and payback mechanisms?

Was not aware, definitely removing it from my list. Thanks for the heads up @gyngyn

You could probably keep Iowa since you are from a neighboring state. Possibly U Wisconsin too.
Awesome thanks! Any schools off the top of your head that i could be missing?

I've narrowed my list down a little bit:

1) Loyola
2) University of IL
3) Rush
4) Rosalind Franklin
5) Albany
6) Quinnipiac
7) Geisinger
8) Drexel
9) Medical College of Wisconsin
10) Creighton
11) George Washington
12) Temple
13) New York Medical College
14) Tulane
15) Wake Forest
16) Virginia Tech
17) Indiana
18) Oakland Beaumont
19) Toledo
20) Wayne St.
21) Wright St.
22) Midwestern - CCOM
23) Midwestern - AZCOM
24) KCU-COM
25) Rocky Vista
26) PCOM
27) Des Moines
28) Marian (MUCOM)

Then I'm wondering, should I toss an app towards Seton Hall and Nova Southeastern? Their both new schools correct? Do I have a chance at getting into one of those 28 established schools over getting into a new school that comes with its own headaches?

Unless you are an Ohio resident you can remove Wright State and Toledo (and half of Toledo's non residents are from Michigan). Add Seton Hall and NOVA MD instead.

I applied to MD/DO, 15 and 5 respectively. I only had 2 interviews and one acceptance, but I applied way too late in August for MD and October for DO. When I talked to advisors they said I would have way better luck applying earlier.
Were you accepted to MD or DO?

1) Loyola
2) University of IL
3) Rush
4) Rosalind Franklin
5) Albany
6) Quinnipiac
7) Geisinger
8) Drexel
9) Medical College of Wisconsin
10) Creighton

Ive come into a little money so Ive decided to add U of Vermont, Tufts, and U of Miami

Figured I'd bump this to give everyone an idea of how my cycle went. I ultimately applied to over 30 schools (24 MD). This is how it shook out:

MD Interviews (4 out of 24):
Rosalind Franklin --> waitlist --> ACCEPTANCE
Rush ---> rejection
MCW ---> waitlist ---> withdrew
NYMC ---> waitlist ---> withdrew

DO interviews (6 out of 7):
Rocky Vista ---> acceptance ---> withdrew
KCU-KC ---> acceptance ---> withdrew
AZCOM ---> withdrew prior to attending interview
MUCOM ---> waitlist ---> withdrew
Des Moines ---> waitlist ---> withdrew
CCOM ---> acceptance ---> withdrew

thanks @Goro and @Faha for helping me with my list one year ago
