Hey all, I'm finalizing everything in preparation for applications in a month and wanted to get some input from the community. I’m a trad applicant and I've outlined everything below, and any help/comments are appreciated. I definitely don't want it to be too top heavy, especially because I know my GPA isn't exactly stellar for T20s.

Residency: Kansas

Ties to Other States: I have close family in Philadelphia, and grew up visiting often; I also attend college in Arizona (not sure if this qualifies as a tie to the state); long-term girlfriend who recently moved back to NYC.

MCAT/GPA/sGPA: 523/3.84/3.76

Clinical Volunteering: 400 hours; majority come from volunteering at a free homeless clinic during every year of college; also volunteered at campus clinic, as well as clinical training for my CNA licence.

Nonclinical Volunteering: 250 hours; majority come from the same club that ran the free clinics; also some from volunteering with my fraternity.

Research: 250 hours from an ecology lab during one semester freshman year.

Leadership: Executive board member of the aforementioned homeless medicine club; academic chair of my fraternity; TA/Preceptor for a general chemistry course.

LOR: Two science profs, one English prof, one employer (planetarium job), one physician.

Miscellaneous/Hobbies: I work at the campus planetarium teaching earth science to disadvantaged grade schoolers; this summer I have a rural health internship; I also spend a ton of time rock climbing, hunting (is this bad to mention on my app?), and backpacking.

School List:

University of Kansas

Jefferson

Vermont

George Washington

Georgetown

Tufts

Boston University

Dartmouth

Albert Einstein

Drexel

NYMC

USC

Pittsburg

Brown

Mount Sinai

Colorado

UVA

Rochester

Arizona (Phoenix)

UMich

Brown

Northwestern

UChicago

UCSF

UCSD

Columbia (Bassett)

Cornell

NYU

Yale

Mayo

Theme: I talked a lot about healthcare access in my personal statement, and it's something I feel strongly about. I definitely have hints of a rural health theme, but that ties in a lot to a general theme of service with the underserved.

Thanks!

What is the nature of your 250 hours of non clinical volunteering?
Much of it comes from walking the streets of downtown Tucson and handing out supplies to the unhoused population that lives there. Another chunk of it comes from miscellaneous group volunteering events with community centers which was organized either through the street medicine club or my fraternity.

You have a good list and should receive several interviews. You could add Washington University (in St. Louis-almost a guaranteed interview with your stats).
