Date of submission: June 24th (only applied to 3 so far)
Overall GPA: 3.92
Science GPA:
3.88
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA:
3.87
DAT score (include AA and all sections):
22AA/ 23TS/ 24 PAT/ 25 OC/ 22 Bio/ 22 Gen Chem/ 22 QR/ 21 RC
State of Residence: Delaware

Undergrad Attended: UDEL
Major: biological sciences (BS)
Minor: business administration
Minority? No
Reapplicant? No
Nontrad? No

Shadowing Experience: All general dentistry at 4 different places... 84 hours, 16 hours, 30 hours, 20 hours
Volunteering Experience: around 300 hours, 250 at hospital, and 50 through volunteering (not dental related)
Employment: work part time during school year for almost 2 years (at fast food/restaurant type job... supervisor ~ 800 hours)
Research: Doing research program over this summer through paid program (full time 10 weeks), Did research at drosophila lab during two semesters for credit (total 4 credits) probably around 60 hours). Planning on having presentation end of summer and hopefully published end of year
Other Extracurriculars: Pre dental society (through UDEL)
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? Attended pre dental day at Temple, attended Udel Health Professions Fair and met Upenn and Temple admission officers
Relevant Honors or Awards: Deans award for all semester, co-president of PDS, president charity crossing
LOR type and strength: I believe two/3 strong LOR... 1 strong from science prof, 1 strong from humanities prof, 1 strong from employer... last LOR was acceptable (science) ...committee letter completed with highest rating, 1 from general dentist also strong
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags:
no dental assisting, worried that I did not fill out experiences well/properly (in descriptions.. did it more resume like rather than using I statements and what I learned), not strong extracurriculars through university but have lots of hobbies that include dexterity
School list:
Please let me know if there are any shools you would recommend I apply to that aren't on this list and if I should not apply to some of these (feeling quite confused as to where to apply especially because of the out of state statistics) .

If you applied to Penn with your stats, why not apply to all the Ivies (so I get your logic for Columbia or Harvard).

Geographically, I don't know how the NJ schools or Maryland treat Delaware applicants off-hand, but you can pick where you would like to go as long as it fits your goals as a future dentist. Where do you ultimately want to practice? I agree, check your OOS stats on UIC, UNC, UCLA, UCSF, UW, Colorado... you have metrics that could get you an II, but the odds are really small, so understand mission fit and how you want to be trained (patients, technology, mentoring, connections with local/state dentists). Be choosy with the privates that you want to attend. I agree keep UConn and UNE if you want to stay in the Northeast and some rural care.

Hi! Thanks for the response...I am considering UNE as well and am taking off UIC. I was wondering why you suggested getting rid of Nova if you don't mind explaining.

Thanks for the response! I thought I should apply to Penn as my DAT score is more similar to their stats compared to Columbia or Harvard. Also what do you mean by II? Thanks again. I will apply to UNE as well. I believe NJ and Maryland do not treat DE applicants any differently, as far as I know only Temple reserves a couple of seats.

your stats are well above nova's range
you are not geographically close to the area
nova will likely assume you are going to a better, cheaper school and may not consider you...

I liked that UCSF has interprofessional education and that UNC would allow me to serve in rural areas... also liked the global outreach program they offer... I am not sure how many schools I should apply to with my stats. Considering it is so competitive to get into dental school, I am hoping that applying to more places will give me more options.

Temple
UMD
Upenn
Tufts
BU
UNC
VCU
Pitt
UCSF
Harvard?
Columbia?

Potentially UConn / Colorado....

Thank you again for your help :)
Upenn
UNC
UCSF
Harvard?
Columbia?

5 of your 11 schools are easily in the top 10-12 most difficult schools to get into outside of the texas schools
and uconn may be in the top 12-15
though your stats are not too far out of their range

so that leaves you with in-range (if you checked OOS/delaware acceptances)
Temple
UMD
VCU
Pitt

and 2 safeties (although some people would consider temple a safety)
Tufts
BU

what did the Upenn/Temple adcoms tell you?
that will tell you the most about whether or not you need to add more schools

have you practiced for interviews?
are you confident you can interview well?

why are you interested in colorado?

First, what does interprofessional education look like at UCSF vs. BU, which is on your list. A lot of dental schools have IP education, but everyone does it very differently.

Dental School isn't a study abroad program, but many schools offer an international experience as do residency programs, where your skills are more valued.
