Hi Everyone!

I am currently a rising senior in university who just decided a few months ago that I wanted to pursue dentistry. Although I am a little late, please tell me what I should improve on in my application as I would like to apply in the next cycle (or if I am really behind, take another gap year and apply 2026-2027 cycle). I also have a list of dental schools I was thinking of, but please let me know if I should remove any of them from my list (bec of tuition costs, OOS eligibility, etc) Thank you!!

Overall GPA: 3.6 Bachelors of Science, 4.0 (will change once I take more courses senior year) Masters of Engineering
DAT score (include AA and all sections): Aiming for a 20-21 AA
State of Residence: MA

Undergrad/Grad Attended: Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Major: Biomedical Engineering (in both undergrad and grad)

Shadowing Experience: 130+ between three general dentists and one oral surgeon and one of them is open to writing me a letter of rec.
Volunteering Experience: 50+ volunteering in donating hygiene products to women's homeless shelters, plan to volunteer 100 hours during senior year at local hospital nearby, 20+ hours mentoring and doing activities with kids
Employment: 720+ hours as student activities office marketing intern (not sure if it applies/I should say), 320+ hours as marketing and communications assistant (more CS focused? made web pages/fixed broken links. not sure if it applies), 320+ hours as residential program assistant for highschool students in summer college program, 80+ hours as event assistant in summer program
Research: 480+ hours for research internship related to cell culturing and biomaterials, 300+(?) hours as undergraduate research assistant related to magnet recycling
Projects/Publications: Have 2 publications, one from being a undergraduate research assistant. Other was from a school project where I traveled to Thailand to implement strategies to reduce malaria among migrant workers.
Other Extracurriculars: was president and treasurer of community service club The Period Agenda which focused on donating women's hygiene products, public relations officer for international student council, and is members of the pre-health society, society of asian scientists and engineers, and biomedical engineering society.
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? No
Relevant Honors or Awards: Deans List (3 or 4x), Presidential Scholarship,
LOR type and strength: 2 science professors, 1 General Dentist (so far)
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere: I have a passion for art and even commissioned pieces before but not sure if its relevant in application? Not sure if I should submit an art portfolio too since it can show manual dexterity skills? Also not sure if I need more dental work experience (such as being a sterile tech etc).

These were the schools I was interested in but I am not sure how to cut it down:

AZ & IL - Midwestern University of Dental Medicine
FL - Nova Southeastern University
MA - Boston University
MA - Tufts University
MD - University of Maryland School of Dentistry
ME - University of New England
MI - University of Detroit Mercy
NE - Crieghton University School of Dentistry
NJ - Rutgers School of Dental Medicine
NY - Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine
NV - Roseman University
OH - Case Western Reserve University
PA - University of Pittsburgh Dentistry
PA - Temple University
PA - Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM)
VA - Virginia Commonwealth University

how did you come up with this list?

I looked and picked schools more around my area since I prefer to stay near or in New England. Also tried to pick more schools that accept OOS! Not sure how accurate it is though. I have yet to look into tuition costs for each.

you certainly can apply next cycle
get back to us when you take the DAT and we can help with the list
for starters, get rid of these
and look at mission fit rather than "prefer to stay in NE" "accept oos" and "tuition costs"...

AZ - Midwestern University of Dental Medicine
FL - Nova Southeastern University
NE - Crieghton University School of Dentistry
NV - Roseman University

I'll definitely take a look at that, thanks! I will remove those 4 from my list too.
