I know my DAT score is subpar. Would the rest of my application possibly make up for it? Looking to apply to UNE and LECOM.

Overall GPA: 3.8
Science GPA: 3.43
Bio-Chem-Physics GPA: C+ in biochem, have not yet taken Physics.
DAT score: 18AA 16TS 14GC 14QR 16OC 18PAT 29RC
State of Residence: OH

Undergrad Attended: The Ohio State University
Major: Health Science
Minor: Military Science
Minority: No... white female
Reapplicant: No
Nontrad? I am in the Army. I can’t retake my DAT this summer because I got called up to active duty and won’t return until when my fall semester begins.

Shadowing Experience: 250 hours of shadowing general dentists and an oral surgeon. Have my radiographer’s license.
Volunteering Experience: 120 hours, volunteer in nursing homes, food pantries, and numerous homeless shelters.
Employment: I work 30 hours a week as a dental assistant.
Research: Started conducting research on bacteriophages, was put on hold due to COVID.

TLDR; my DAT is not great, but could the rest of my app make up for it?

To be 100% honest, I think your DAT score is going to get you thrown out from most schools right away due to cutoffs. Most schools will have a cutoff of 16-17 for each section and gen Chem and Qr are below that cutoff with orgo being pretty borderline. I would call the few schools you are interested in and ask about cutoffs they may have for each section. If they say you are below the cutoffs then obviously I feel like it would be a waste of money to apply. If they say they don’t have cutoffs then it might be worth it to apply since the rest of your application is really strong. Best of luck with your decision, but generally speaking I would say waiting until you can retake your DAT and doing better, then applying the next cycle is likely your best bet!

Np, I understand it sucks to have to possibly wait another year just because of the DAT. But really the rest of your application is great, a retake with a strong score could give you a lot more options.

While the things you have on your app are unique, your academic stats don't portray you as a strong student right now. As mentioned earlier, your GC and QR scores will probably cause you to be auto-rejected/screened out right away. You did not list your bio score, but I assume that's either a 15 or 16 = still an issue. With a 3.8o and 3.43s, you should break at least a 20AA with all sections above 18 to have your stats correlate with one another.

Since you can't retake this summer, I'd hold off on applying until you can, which might mean applying next year. I'd also add more schools to your list, especially OSU because you are a resident.

Definitely yes, as long as you have no low scores below 18 and your school list is reasonable/realistic.
