Hey all, I would really like some advice on D.O school list and whether I should even bother applying or take another gap year and retake the MCAT.


Unsure of whether to apply and study for a retake but I would probably take it in August which is probably too late. Not really sure where to go from here. If I should just apply strictly to D.O or apply to both MD and retake after 2 months of studying but that would leave with taking mcat in august and really late for this cycle.

• Undergrad - Biology- cGPA: 3.5 and sGPA: 3.4, no trend
• MCAT score: 501
• Residency: CA
•Clinical experience:

• Volunteer- 380 hrs total , cancer clinic, hospital, children’s hospital, health clinic for underserved population
• Paid- 2,100 hrs

Nonclinical

• 144 hours total, homeless shelter, food banks, community clean up, coaching and reffing for children parasports

• Research experience: ~100 hours, no paper or poster
• Shadowing experience:
- 20 hrs pediatrics, 50 hrs Family Med, 20 hrs Orthopedic
• Other extracurricular activities:

• Created community service club in college
• Tutor for program designed for underserved population and first gen students

Have LOR from 2 professors and 1 from D.O

Thanks for the list @Faha. I completely understand I can't be choosy but was just wondering if there would be a shot or is it unrealistic since i know they like higher MCATs. Curious to your guys opinion, should I apply to MD as well and retake in August or would that be too late and a waste of money. Appreciate all the advice!

Likely you’ll get 503 or 504 , you’ll get interviews at all three California DO schools as a California resident you’ll likely get A at all three as well, Texas has huge instate bias, PCOM and LECOM probably a reach for a 501 out of state applicant
