Hey guys, I have kind of a atypical/reinventor-type application. I’m aware that my ugGPA is awful but I feel as though the rest of my app, especially my ECs, are pretty solid. I’m looking for general estimation of how strong of a candidate I am and also help with my school list. Thanks

SMP(well known program) GPA: 3.7
Undergrad cGPA: 3.2
Undergrad sGPA: ~3.1
MCAT: ~515 Based on practice exams testing in a few weeks —> First time I took it I got a 509
Undergraduate: mid tier public
Major: Micro
Residency: New Hampshire (fml)
Demographic: 24yo M
Ethnicity: white
Clinical Hours: Construction site medic (~3000 hrs) EMT-A (1200 hrs)
Volunteer/Community Service: Youth football coach in underserved community (400 hrs)
Extracurriculars: interned in medical affairs at a large well known corporation for a year (900 hrs)
Leadership: managed a small medical clinic at a construction site w/ 3-5 direct reports (3000hrs same job as “construction site medic” listed above)
Research: summer wet lab experience (maybe 50-100 hrs?) admittedly a not very productive experience.

School list: preference for northeast region but am aware that I can’t be choosy with my stats. List is made from goros reinvention list plus a few extras

Saw your post on Reddit. GPA is gonna hurt you also while the first MCAT is not bad, in combination with your GPA it'll make it difficult for MD. If you get a 515+ I would imagine you will get some nibbles. If your goal is simply "doctor", I would apply to some Northeast DO schools. Now go study you unmotivated POS.

With your current MCAT of 509 and your GPA the majority of your schools are unrealistic. Post your new score here in the future. Are you willing to apply to DO schools ?

I’ve considered it. granted my mcat comes out Ok I think my current plan is to apply MD first cycle and MD/DO if I don’t get in first time.

I understand the whole thing is a crapshoot but it seems like I’ve hit/am close to the general benchmarks for reinvention that goro recommends (gradGPA 3.7 and mcat 513+) and have based my school lists on what he recommends? Maybe I’m niave but granted I hit a 515 is MD really that unrealistic?

You need to have a real score of 515 first, then your chances for a MD acceptance would be ~50%.

Great thank you both,

Goro I just saw your policy on hypotheticals. Ill check back with my score in hand in a couple months. I noticed the list you quoted removes some of the schools. Are those ones you recommend I ax from my list?
