When will you receive your MCAT score? You have schools on your list that accept very few non residents with your predicted MCAT score such as North Dakota, Central Michigan, Arizona, Wright State, USF, the South Carolina schools, East Tennessee and Missouri. Howard accepts mainly URM.

There is a big difference between a 506 and a 503.

ECU is your best shot as their median MCAT is a 506 and your GPA is good and you're in state

with <506 I'd add DO schools. there's Campbell in NC

On a related note, OP, what part of NC are you from? I believe some or all counties which border TN are considered IS for admission to Eastern TN Quillen, but they would be very unlikely to take someone who is not from Appalachia.

I live in western north carolina (rural, borders TN). Also, my dad did his residency at ETSU and my mom was there for undergrad/grad school. That's the only reason I'm applying there.

Tomorrow actually! And really? From the data I've found North Dakota accepts 38% out of state and has an average mcat of 503? I realize that the rest have lower OOS acceptance rates but they also have lower MCAT scores

The MCAT scores for non residents are much higher than the averages. The non residents who attend North Dakota are mainly from neighboring states (10% Minnesota, 10% other western states) and another 10% for Native American applicants.

The reason state schools have lower MCAT scores is because they have to fulfill a quota of in-state matriculants every cycle, even if these in-state applicants have lower statistics than an OOS applicant. Honestly, their averages would probably be even lower if it weren't for the few OOS outliers with much higher than average stats mixed into the class.

The bottom line is that you shouldn't let that average fool you. You have a very little chance at state schools if you're not in-state, and an even smaller chance if your stats are not significantly above the average for the class. If you have average stats, then they have no incentive to take you over an in-state applicant.

Your best bet is at OOS privates where your application is seen on par with every other applicant's.

Good luck!

I think it's worth mentioning that there are some state public schools that are unique cases. Some state schools don't have a high number of instate applicants like others, so they commonly accept many OOS applicants. Vermont and West Virginia come to mind.

Did you notice the ratio for interviews and matriculants for OOS vs IS???

State schools favor the home team. One has to be > avg for OOS public schools.

Your being from western NC makes Quillan doable, but your MCAT score will make or break you.
