Hi,
I am OMS 3 and trying to decide whether I should try for ortho or not.
My stats: COMLEX- 520s USMLE-220 top 30% classrank. Lots of research with 2 first author pubs ( not related to ortho)
If someone can please share from similar situation whether I kissed goodbye to ortho with the low comlex score.

Thanks!!

Based on board scores, you would be a big underdog. Even more so because alot of programs screen board scores when assigning auditions (which would be your only hope...)

But if it's what you want, you might as well go for it. Pick up an ortho elective with a private doctor, network, and then try to get auditions.

You could always apply and see what happens. Crazier things have happened.

You could also apply to family med (-->sports med) as a back up. Your USMLE should make you competitive at a lot of places.

I don't know ortho that well but I'd imagine you'd still have a chance, although it would be a fighting one. You'd have to knock your auditions out of the park and pretty much be amazing at everything else. 520 is definitely low for ortho but I'd imagine it isn't insurmountable if you're a cool person and have an amazing app otherwise.

I would not chance this at all.
