Hello everyone, I am fortunate enough to have been blessed with several interview invites to my top schools, but in the event I need to reapply I would like to ask for advice on how to improve my application for the next cycle.
  • cGPA is 3.93+ and sGPA is 3.9+
  • MCAT score is 513 (126/127/128/132)
  • TN resident for the past 10 years. I used to live in Florida for quite some time.
  • White.
  • Flagship state school with its own medical school.
  • Clinical experience is all volunteer:
  • 180 hours as a Remote Area Medical Clinic CORE volunteer.
  • 150 hours as a nurse assistant at a local VA.
  • Total: 330 hours with about 50-80 more hours predicted by end of cycle. Continuing both activities.
  • Research Experience is:
  • 75 hours of basic organic chemistry bench lab.
  • 200-300 hours of statistical research for a local hospital.
  • No pubs, some presentations.
  • Shadowing Experiences:
  • 10 hours Ophthalmology.
  • 50 hours Endocrinology.
  • 20 hours Cardiology.
  • 50 hours Trauma.
  • 50 hours Family Medicine.
  • Total: 180 hours. Will not be continuing as this is more than enough in my opinion.
  • Non-clinical volunteering:
  • 100 hours sewing masks through college opportunity.
  • 100 hours as an Equestrian therapy volunteer.
  • 50 hours as a theatre department volunteer.
  • 20 hours college projects volunteering.
  • 50-100 hours projected at Local Volunteer Rescue Squad
  • Total: 270 hours non-clinical and 320-370 hours predicted. Continuing Equestrian therapy and Rescue Squad.
  • Other extracurricular activities:
  • Paid Employment:
  • 300 hours as an incoming freshmen mentor.
  • 300 hours as an Organic Chemistry tutor.
  • 300 hours as a SI leader in Organic Chemistry.
  • Projected 100-200 hours as a TN achieves mentor.
  • Total: 900 hours and 1,00-1,000 predicted. Note: did not apply with SI on the app as was not hired till fall.
  • Team sport-ish:
  • 800-900 hours as a varsity debater for my state college.
  • Earned an award for my activity in this group.
  • Honors/Awards:
  • Dean’s list all semesters
  • President’s list at community college.
  • Debate award.
  • Preference is to stay in-state and school list are as follows:

I think you have a pretty good app. But if you do need to reapply, definitely apply to more schools. Other than that, simply continue doing the activities you love!

Thank you so much for your advice!
No problem! I really think you are competitive for Emory/Pitt tier schools, and I don't think you need to apply DO at all.

If you do need to reapply, at least you won't be considered a reapplicant at these Emory/Pitt schools and you will be in a potentially less competitive cycle. Good luck!
