Ok so first let me say that I still have an interview coming up this Tuesday at SIU (I'm a southern IL resident). Let me also add that I had an interview with SLU but was rejected (which is utterly heartbreaking because this was my dream school and I absolutely love STL; I grew up right next door). These two schools are the only ones I have received IIs from thus far. I'm already thinking about what I might do if SIU rejects me-- I would reapply (obviously). I'm wondering if anyone knows what my chances are at SLU as a reapplicant, ESPECIALLY if I get tons of service work in STL (specifically downtown and underserviced areas).
  1. cGPA: 3.8 and sGPA: 3.6 (but also may rise with the classes I'm taking right now in my final semester of undergrad).
  2. MCAT score: 510 (C/P: 126, CARS: 127, BB: 127, P/S: 130)
  3. State: IL
  4. Identification: white/caucasian female
  5. Undergraduate institution: SIUE, bachelor or science (biology)
  6. Clinical experience: scribing at local hospital (still getting hours but will prob have ~500-800 by next cycle), volunteering at Missouri Baptist hospital for ~30 hr)
  7. Research experience and productivity: worked in 2 labs throughout my undergrad (2 years in a neuroscience/alzheimers/cell bio lab, went to a conference and presented; 2 years in a microbio lab)
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: pathology (4 hr), wound care clinic (4 hr), internist (~30 hr)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: fostering and volunteering with animal shelter (45 hr), crisis text line counselor (59 hr)
  10. Other extracurricular activities : executive of healthcare ethics and issues club for 1 yr, tutor at my university for 2 yr, also presented at a genetics conference (as mentioned earlier)
  11. Relevant honors or awards: lol nothing besides deans list for all years

St Louis is looking for applicants with far more non clinical volunteering than you have. Accumulate 250+ hours such as homeless shelter, food bank, etc. before you reapply. I suggest these schools when you reapply:
SIU
Illinois
Ponce (St. Louis)
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
TCU
Creighton
Alice Walton
Belmont
Tulane
NOVA MD
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
George Washington
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Roseman (when it opens)
Methodist (when it opens)
As a reapplicant you should include DO schools and consider CCOM, DMU-COM, MU-COM, ATSU-KCOM, KCU-COM
